Forums - Nintendo - DS and PSP sales compared...

If sony are going to stand any chance in the next handheld gen, they're going to have to bring it hard in terms of software.

Because nintendo can just bring out a pokemon, nintendogs, mario or whatever to get things kick-started for them. I don't see Sony having that same luxury.

Mmm ,actually after shipments figures Sony had shipped 41 million PSP back in july when they gave numbers at the E3.I think the PSP is considerably undertracked (some 2-3 million ) in vgchartz.Still ,its true the DS is selling a lot more ,specially now that in the wait for the PSP3000 the actual PSP sales are fading ...we will see what happens when the PSP3000 arrives.

 Life is undertracked.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

No matter what PSP sales are at the end of the generation, I expect DS sales to be more than double.

If PSP sells 80 million, DS will sell 170.

If PSP sells 100 million, DS will sell 220.

PsP lacks third party support for games because of piracy issues. Games don't sell on PsP and devs know that. UMD movies don't sell well either. Sony has had to struggle to get games on their PsP and I think for their first time into hand held market they are doing a good job. Can't wait to see what they do in the future, it's always nice to have options when it comes to console and handheld choices instead of always having to buy the newest Nintendo handheld.

I dont think the psp will manage to sell 100 million units

I agree, you are assuming that the sales will continue like this (and that both companies wont announce new handhelds).

Sony said that they will keep their 10 year plan for PsP as well. They do it for every one of their systems so I don't expect them to lie about this. When slim PsP came out sales jumped so maybe with PsP 3000 sales will jump again. They will probably release a new console but support PsP still. Ds won't drop a new handheld untill sales slow down which isn't for a while.

^ that doesnt depend on sony at all...it doesnt matter what they say. It depends in the sales of the console....you think that the ps3 will last 10 years if continues like this??? Please.

Both are doing quite well. I think it shows that people still like the normal way of interacting with games even though the fan boys will tell you that the ds' touchscreen and the wiimote are the future.

I dont know about life, but PSP is undertracked.

PS:You overestimate your brains ,too .

i dont expect a new handheld for a while. I think we will first see another SKU when sales drop. this will boost sales and it will only be when they start falling again theat a new handheld is released. im expecting one in 2010
