Forums - PC - Any Space fighter/sim games???

Anybody still make these games?

I'm talking about stuff like Freespace, Decent, Wing Commander series, Xwing/TIE fighter.  This was one of my favorite genre of game and seems to be quite lacking nowadays (or maybe I haven't paid enough attention).  I saw the X2/3 series on Steam.  What does anybody know about them or if they are good?  It looks more like more stategy but I'm not opposed to that either.  Maybe some PC experts can help me out, I've been on a buying spree lately and looking for something new to try.

Evochron Renegades (2007) and Arvoch Conflict (2006) from developer SW3DG

Darkstar One (2006)

Freelancer (2003)

Escape Velocity Nova (2002-2006)

are the most recent ones I can think of besides the ones you mentioned. I haven't played any of them, so I can't give you any personal impressions. Here's a list of space sims (incl. strategy games).

My favorite game from this genre is Wing Commander: Privateer from 1993. There's a free remake available, called Wing Commander Privateer Gemini Gold. It's based on the OpenSource space sim Vega Strike.

Freelancer was the last Space game I played. I REALLY miss this genre. We need a Starcraft: Battlecruiser game to come out. Or even better, Starcraft: Interceptor.

Will there ever be another Elite game?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll look into what's been posted so far. If anybody has any hands-on with any of these games let me know!

StarLancer was way way way way better than FreeLancer.

Tachyon The Fringe was also great for Bruce Campbell humor.

Time to play through Freespace 2 again.

Funny you should ask, because a new game was released yesterday:

I haven't bought it but I plan on it...I could play through Freespace 2 again, but I can't get the files to work on my PC for some reason.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Yeah I still have Freespace 1 and 2 but I really wish they would make new ones... maybe the lack of Hollywood scifi movies with emphasis on space fights has something to do with it... why didn´t Lucasarts make a new StarWars spacefigher???... the opening scene to Episode 3 was a good inspiration...
