You have sunken really low if you have to defend the Gamecube in order to strengthen your argument.

*EDIT: If the Wii is mostly selling to casuals, why is its attach rate slightly higher than the PS3's? Does that mean that casuals buy just as many games as hardcore gamers or how else do you explain this? END EDIT*

High definition graphics, better sound, more sophistication: new game modes, achievements. PM:CE has everything that follows the trajectory of the industry.

Xbox Live does exactly same thing the new Mega Man 9, which is to bring back classic gaming to the masses.  Despite launching in 2004 it hasn't changed the industry so it's nonsense to conclude that Mega Man 9 will.

Checkmate.

How many other sequels on XBLA have gone intentionally backwards in the graphics and sound department like Mega Man 9? Remember, MM7 was a SNES game and MM8 was on the PS1 and had voice acting.

So how many games did the same as MM9 is doing?

Pac-Man did it.  Check out Pac-Man World 1, 2, and 3.

what in the world are you blabbing on about?! those games did not go intentionally backwards in graphics or sound..AT ALL

>_>'' kinda..feel like trolling dontcha?...we all do at times XD

I totally agree with everything he wrote..

if you guys would take your time and read it..you would all understand WHAT he means

he never said the game would PHAIL

what he's saying is..that it's not completely what he thought it would be: The new Megaman 3

as in...everything that was GOOD about MM put into it..and all the bad taken OUT of it..

what happend was that MM9 is like a sequel to MM3...same old gameplay..but...same generic bosses..

with a FEW new concepts..and the NEW concepts make the game fun..I dun wanna beat 1 fire boss each time I play MM...it gets repetetive..

create something new..

what he's trying to say..MM9 is not as disrupted as he wished it were

The hardcore don't fear MM9 like Malstrom claims, they welcome it.  If hardcore gamers were afraid they would have been terrified of XBLA instead of embracing it.  Many hardcore gamers (and casuals) love classic games and classic gameplay but that in no way means that MM9 is going to change anything.

Going back to a game's roots simply wouldn't work with some genres, especially those that rely heavily on technology.  Take the FPS, RTS, and sports genres for example.  If EA were to strip Madden of all it's features or if Microsoft stripped Halo of everything that has been added to the series since it came out there would be a backlash.  If Starcraft 2 ended up removing many of features of Starcraft 1 what would people expect to happen?

MM9 isn't disruptive, it won't change anything except maybe see a few more companies release nostalgia fueled games.

You should read Malstrom post first. What he said was:

"Many hardcore who are drunk on nostalgia will look at Mega Man 9 as a childhood dream come true. But the nostalgia-free hardcore will scream in terror about Mega Man 9… and they are doing it."

If some companies release Nostalgia games and they sell well... isn't that a changing in today's industry image?

Since you want to defend his claims here's one I'd like to see you back up:

"Not normal people will scream in rage that Mega Man 9 is destroying all of gaming"

Please show me forum postings from anywhere with people screaming in rage that Mega Man 9 is destroying all of gaming.  Hell I just looked at the official thread on NeoGAF and there hasn't even been one troll, veiled or otherwise.

Also I just read his entire article and I have to question why he even wrote it when he writes the following:

"I will hopefully eat my words when Mega Man 9 comes out. However, based on the pattern I have seen, Inafune still doesn’t get it. Mega Man 9 seems more like nostalgia for the developers than anything else. If I am right, then the new Robot Masters will be forgotton very soon. People will not think much of Jewel Man since his weapon has been in almost every other Mega Man game. People will note the inconsistency in the game, of why some stages are pretty hard while others are very easy.".

If he doesn't think Mega Man 9 will change anything why did he even waste peoples' time with his article?  It seems like a way to get out of the article ever coming back to haunt him.  If Mega Man 9 does indeed change his readers can point to that article and claim Malstrom has seen the future yet again.  But if it changes nothing they can point to that paragraph and blame Capcom for it and there isn't a strike against Malstrom.  How can anyone respect the writings of someone that makes such a bold headline like "The Blue Bomber is the Herald of the Apocalypse" and yet writes such a cop out at the end of his article like that?

Although Malstrom always makes some good points, he's long gone over-the-top with his wild disruption predictions: we now see that an innovation, more than disruption, happened, that Nintendo found a new market currently bigger than the old one, but the old one is by no means extinct, keeping the current pace the sum of PS3 and XB360 will easily exceed 150mln at the end of this generation and this means that although the old market could be surpassed by the new one, is very far from being marginalized, as it would happen if a real complete disruption took place. And we don't even know how the market could change when both PS3 and high-end XB360 models will be under $250.

Didn't you read people hating the game because of not having HD or at least Snes graphics? Where were you those days? I'm sure I read a lot at IGN. Maybe here in VGChartz but I don't remember. I could show you Press-Start.vg but I don't know if you speak Spanish, do you?

"I have to question why he even wrote it when he writes the following....."

No, you forgot to read this:

"With that said, while I think Mega Man 9 will be a success, it will not be the game to top Mega Man 2 or 3. Once the hype washes away, people will see Mega Man 9 more on par with Mega Man 1 than with 2 or 3."

Last sentence:

"Mega Man 9, as the Herald of the Apocalypse, may unleash new games that break the trajectory the industry has been on. However, it is unlikely to replace Mega Man 2 or 3 as a classic. Hopefully, I’m wrong."

In other words, Malstrom is sure the game will be a success and will cause other developers to create similar stuff, but his fear is that it will not be better to consumers than Megaman 2 or 3. Why? Because of the bosses. It's a theory of him that wrote here:

http://malstrom.50webs.com/megaman/contents.htm

But this is only an opinion, that's why instead of stating that this WILL happen, he said: "I will hopefully eat my words"
