The hardcore don't fear MM9 like Malstrom claims, they welcome it.  If hardcore gamers were afraid they would have been terrified of XBLA instead of embracing it.  Many hardcore gamers (and casuals) love classic games and classic gameplay but that in no way means that MM9 is going to change anything.

Going back to a game's roots simply wouldn't work with some genres, especially those that rely heavily on technology.  Take the FPS, RTS, and sports genres for example.  If EA were to strip Madden of all it's features or if Microsoft stripped Halo of everything that has been added to the series since it came out there would be a backlash.  If Starcraft 2 ended up removing many of features of Starcraft 1 what would people expect to happen?

MM9 isn't disruptive, it won't change anything except maybe see a few more companies release nostalgia fueled games.

You should read Malstrom post first. What he said was:

"Many hardcore who are drunk on nostalgia will look at Mega Man 9 as a childhood dream come true. But the nostalgia-free hardcore will scream in terror about Mega Man 9… and they are doing it."

If some companies release Nostalgia games and they sell well... isn't that a changing in today's industry image?

Since you want to defend his claims here's one I'd like to see you back up:

"Not normal people will scream in rage that Mega Man 9 is destroying all of gaming"

Please show me forum postings from anywhere with people screaming in rage that Mega Man 9 is destroying all of gaming.  Hell I just looked at the official thread on NeoGAF and there hasn't even been one troll, veiled or otherwise.

NeoGAF official Mega Man 9 thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=336111&page=1

Also I just read his entire article and I have to question why he even wrote it when he writes the following:

"I will hopefully eat my words when Mega Man 9 comes out. However, based on the pattern I have seen, Inafune still doesn’t get it. Mega Man 9 seems more like nostalgia for the developers than anything else. If I am right, then the new Robot Masters will be forgotton very soon. People will not think much of Jewel Man since his weapon has been in almost every other Mega Man game. People will note the inconsistency in the game, of why some stages are pretty hard while others are very easy.".

If he doesn't think Mega Man 9 will change anything why did he even waste peoples' time with his article?  It seems like a way to get out of the article ever coming back to haunt him.  If Mega Man 9 does indeed change his readers can point to that article and claim Malstrom has seen the future yet again.  But if it changes nothing they can point to that paragraph and blame Capcom for it and there isn't a strike against Malstrom.  How can anyone respect the writings of someone that makes such a bold headline like "The Blue Bomber is the Herald of the Apocalypse" and yet writes such a cop out at the end of his article like that?
