For the first time in my life I wasn't going to own a current gen system. Consoles were trying to be PCs, and my PC was better than any console, so why downgrade?
Then E3 2006 happened, Wii was unveiled. Like all those people waiting in line that snaked across the entire show, I HAD to try it.
I camped out overnight on opening day, with people driving by asking "are you in line for the PS3?!" and was one of 5 people (out of 100) to get a Wii on day 1.
If Nintendo had made a Gamecube 2 and did nothing but upgrade graphics and add a hard drive, this would be the first generation I didn't own a console.
Funny thing is, Nintendo assumed there were a lot of people like me, people who were tired of console gaming and would drop out this generation. The Wii was designed partly to get people like me back into consoles.
