No really, I agree.  It is ok to compare games based on sales, even if the games are very different.  The games do have some stuff in common: really great multiplayer experince, addtional online content, addictive gameplay, part of American culture...

Sorry epinefridis, but I find it rather stupid (and arrogant) to measure a game's quality on how few people can play it. Following your logic, If I were to write a game so difficult that nobody could play it at all, it would be the greatest game ever written.

 

 

Who mentioned ANYTHING about quality??? Did I say anything about quality? I was talking  about audience appeal and different (though not irrelevant) categories of consumers!! I didn't compare the games in terms of quality! How could I? They are totally different.

I guess you read what you wanna read...

What I'm sayin' is that: A HUGE Heavy Metal release will sell (WOULD sell back in the eighties anyway...) 2 million albums. A huge POP release would sell 20 million. Is this so hard to understand? And yes, of course, there would be consumers who would buy both (At least in the case of the games mentioned, I did)

I wish Zelda Sold that much... Since Zelda is my favorite franchise.

I cant believe how much those crappy doggy games sell on the DS.

 True. Wii has install base of 32 mill compared to 360s 20 mill. I would say Halo 3 is very impressive.

This is important because it will be the top selling Non- wii series (traditional) game this gen.

 

I think it would be more impressive if it could outsell the highest selling game on consoles. (40 million for Mario Bros).

Also having a much larger install base and MKWii having a much more world wide appeal does help. :P

All those trying to downplay this achievement are laughable.

I guess it'll still be expected, an unfair comparison, and/or no big deal when Mario Kart Wii surpasses Grand Theft Auto IV.

That's exactly the point, MS and Sony can no longer hide in their niche games. if they want their console to suceed they need to make games that appeal to more than 16-20 year old males
