Forums - Nintendo - MK: Wii to Pass Halo 3 in 3 weeks...

DAMN!!!! that is really impressive

Around the Network

It prints money!

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

I was including WiiFit in the Wii series.

Also MKWii is just as much a traditional game as Halo... Heck the MK series is what 18 years old, and is seeing better sales than ever? Halo is 7 years old and I believe it peaked with 3...

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Sorry guys, but I find it rather stupid to compare Halo to MKWii. My mom can play MKWii. My mom CANT play Halo. My little sis can play MKWii. My little sis CANT play HALO (though she wants it badly).
What's the point? (other than self-satisfying comments)
Please, someone enlighten me...

It's that great.  Nintendo was so smart.  Someone like your mom or even me can play Mario Kart Wii casually with almost no skill and still enjoy it.  Yet, if you mom tried Halo 3, she may die a lot real quickly (certainly if it multiplayer online this would be likely) and not end up enjoying the game.  However, Mario Kart Wii is also a very deep game which takes way longer to beat then Halo 3 and also has good online play.

it is simple, halo 3 had more advertising then Jesus, you would have to be living under a rock not to see a halo commercial, not to mention some TV channel dedicated a whole show to halo, it sold faster than a hooker in a comic convention, it set the bar for all the games in this gen to reach, and now mario kart has almost reached it.

Yeah dude. Also, i Phone has an advertisement on TV like every 6 minutes, for 4 weeks. Since the first days of September. Doesn't mean that it should sell to anyone who is watching the commercial!

As long as the demographic appeal for MKWii is 3-4 times bigger than for Halo, the whole thread doesn't make ANY sense. All you Nintendo friends can fancy all you want about something that is COMPLETELY presumable and expected.

I still can't see how a dad with his two kids goin to a shop and say "look boy, there's a game for you! That one where you kill and get killed online for 5 straight hours each day! Woohoo! The dream of any father!"

DONT compare two different things.

Sorry epinefridis, but I find it rather stupid (and arrogant) to measure a game's quality on how few people can play it. Following your logic, If I were to write a game so difficult that nobody could play it at all, it would be the greatest game ever written.

yay! and i still havnt had a chance to buy the game!!! make that 15 million and 1 life time sales! another victory for nintendo

we are comparing sales here, thats what this site does, halo 3 is the highest selling non bundled exclusive game this gen, any game that goes close to halo3 will be compared, be it MKWII, high school musical or anyother game, we are comparing sales not demographic or quality of the games, its as simple as that.

almost forgot, there are loads of games that appeals to wider audience than halo 3 but none out sold it, that alone makes your appealing to wider audience excuse irrelevant.

Well I feel this makes Halo 3 look great as well. With an intended audience only for the hardcore and a smaller user base coupled with the fact that only Americans truly enjoy this game as shown by the sales it is truly impressive. No other hardcore game even comes close this gen.
