Forums - PC - My impressions of Crysis Warhead

I just finished the game. I will do two sections. The top section will have no spoilers, the second one will.

Before you read any more, this game is worth $30.

I have to say it does run better then the first, but at a cost. It actually looks slightly worse in a few areas. One is draw distance. In the first one, you never see any clipping. This time, if you look at a tree on the horizon, and then look with your binoculars, there will be more then one as you zoom in. Crysis did none of this. In the end it's a small price to pay for much better performance, I was just hoping there optimizations were done with zero quality loss.

The story is good, but if you have never played the first one, you will feel a little lost I think. I love the action. It's definitely been turned up a notch. The new weapons are fun, and it's great to play a game where you already know the layout from the start. I can not think of a single part in the game where I felt it needed more...

well... one part.. ***Spoilers below***

If you played the first one, the game ends on a carrier, after you take down this beast of a monster. On that ship, you meet up with Physco (the lead in this game). You defeat the creature, and then head back into the storm to defeat the horde of creatures. That's how the game end. Well. I was hoping this one would take you past that point to where you get to defeat the alien invasion once and for all. Nope. You actually end Warhead right BEFORE you get to the carrier and meet up with Nomad. That was a disappointment.

Well, all I'll say is that I'm pretty impressed at the direction they decided to take this time around. It felt more revolved around the characters, which is quite rare in FPS games nowadays.

When you play the game on Delta, it seems like every tidbits of action make sense, and you see explosions EVERYWHERE! This game is truly amazing on all levels above Crysis, and I hope that for Crysis 2, they'll try to make it as much deep as this one.

Also, funny how at the end Psycho says that little something about Nomad, especially after at the beginning of the game, he said he had worse teammates (when he learned that O'Neill was part of the mission)! xD

*P.S.: I might be a bit biased too because with the new engine optimization, I can run the game on my laptop at 1440x900, all at Mainstream at a constant ± 30 FPS! It's amazing what they've done, really. For $30 and a good 4-5 hours of gameplay, it was worth it.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

I have to say that I enjoyed the original Crysis very much (not the ground breaking or the genre redefining one but, anyway), and I'm looking forward to playing this one too.
But to be honest I had no idea where the Warhead story is taking you. And, TheRealMafoo, your spoiler, disappointed me qa little bit... I guess we'll have to wait for Crysis 2 (MULTI!!!)

Crysis Warhead is amazing, it is more fasted paced and has a better online. THose two things is what the first one needed. But the only problem with warhead it actually performs worse then the original in dx10 very high.

I thought Crysis was a bit underrated. If this one's even better, then it's a definate buy for me.

I think I overestimated how much better the game was going to run - I have an Athlon 64 6000+ and a Radeon 4850 and I still only seem to get fps of around 12-24 (on mainstream settings, even), the worst being in open environments with lots of enemies and such around. I might have to throw the quality settings down to minimal to get playable framerates during large firefights. I guess we'll see.

The game does look pretty cool, though - the beginning of the game was pretty awesome.

The game really runs a lot better for me, although I didn't had much problems running the first on very high, only in vista I had (thank god for the xp mod) , it's so sweet. I totally love it. Online is awesome now too.

The optimizations would be better felt on older hardware.   You have an HD 4850 which would be considered quite new.

is this dx10? you should use dx9 and watch your fps skyrocket. about 22-30 on gamer. My friend did that with a 9800gtx+ which is about par with the hd 4850.

Finished playing the campaign earlier this week; have to say I enjoyed the pacing and plot of Warhead much more than Crysis. Sykes was a more interesting protagonist than Nomad IMO. He felt like a real character, rather than a faceless autonomaton.

Shorter, yes, but this was actually beneficial. Parts of Crysis kind of lagged in my opinion.

Beginning to think I'd rather have extended chapters released on a more frequent basis, rather than full length games every few years.

From a technical standpoint, it unquestionably performs better on the same hardware with the drawback of object pop in.

I'll have to play it again with a 4870, but I found it quite playable with a 9600GT.
