Forums - PC - EA responds to DRM "issue"

that 1% is pissed and left 2000+ 1 stars .

the 3->5 installs does make it better, however i'm a bit worried about 5-10 years down the track, are they still going to be offering services to add installs to my copy? One account per install is also a bit weird.. I mean, they won't be running at the same time.. it just doesn't make sense, especially with any household with just one family computer

i very much doubt that those 2000 people actually needed to install it on 3+ computers before they gave those reviews

"if games that take 1-4 years to develop are effectively stolen the day they launch, developers and publishers will simply stop investing in PC games"

How crass! The man is audacious enough to openly admit that despite it implying that they know the DRM doesn't do squat for long? They are basically saying that they don't care about the majority of their buyers so long as the people who must have it day one don't have the option of downloading it, as if a pirate cares that he or she has to wait a few days.

Heck, their DRM has caused legitimate buyers to pirate EA's products in the past because the DRM was (is?) actually more effective at keeping legitimate buyers from playing their game than pirates. Yet, despite that, this man will actually tell these customers that it's more important to keep the game away from pirates for a few days than make their customers happy.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I am more pleased, but still not happy with the DRM, if they haven't notice, the mayority of people is pissed off because the pirates are getting the game DRM free, ergo, the system is not succesful, so the DRM it's not stopping piracy...

I'd like them to just use steam =)

Seriously though as much as I agree on the anti-piracy thing Twesterm I disagree with you on the DRM issue. There are good ways to handle copy protection (as evidenced by steam), until I hear a good reason not to either use steam or implement a steam-like setup into their own system I have no sympathy for them where it concerns public outcries against their DRM policies.  There are solutions they just have to use them.

PS - I tried Spore and really didn't like it =/ I haven't played the Civ or Space age yet though, maybe it will grow on me. Not sure I plan on buying it at this point, but almost certainly not before the holidays with the large list of other games coming out and gaming cash being tight this time of year.

Interesting that nobody brought Stardock into this "discussion".

ironicaly DRM makes their goal of reducing piracy harder to achieve .

I don't care if it's 3, 5, 10, 50 or 100 activations, it's still less than infinity, which has been my right up to now, and it's still an inferior product compared to the pirated version. EA can shove it.

Stardock FTW. Buy only games that are DRM is the best way to send a message to EA and other companies.
