The game bombed because Namco's PS3 strategy is made of fail.

More like...Namco's overall strategy is made of fail.

The first "real" JRPG didn't do good. Looks like we have to wait for WKC.

On the contrary, their Wii strategy has been (mostly) made of win. Their PS3 strategy seems like an extension of what they did with Symphonia: give the game to the tiny install base, then port it for more sales. The problem is, the PS3 didn't take off quite the way everyone thought it would and they're basically putting their games on one console no one owns and porting to another platform only a few more people own. I'd think that's why Ace Combat 6 still hasn't gone to the PS3 (despite people swearing me up and down on GameFAQs that it was timed exclusive)...there's little point. Everyone who really wanted the game already has it, and the Ace Combat team is already busy on the Wii.

??? Bandai Namco have had astring of Wii bombs. A couple have done OK.

Straight up ports usually suck IMO. Unless Namco Bandai actually recoded the game with the PS3 hardware in mind, this port was doomed to fail from the beginning, just like other 360 ports that the PS3 have gotten (ie. Enchanted Arms, Lost Planet, etc). I'd like to see what the reviews were like for the PS3 version. If I remembered correctly Famitsu gave the 360 version a 35/40.

According to what a couple of my Japanese friends say, Eternal Sonata is not very appealing to the Japanese gamers. The story is more geared towards a western audience as most Japanese gamers don't even know who Chopin is plus they generally prefer the prototypical "boy finds sword and goes save the world from monsters and evil wizards" JRPG premise. So despite whatever hype this game may have had, it's not a game that would sell millions in Japan, regardless of what platform it is on.

I'm still hyped for it, even if a lot of people don't like it.

Chopin ftw.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Why is Hanafuda still doing damage control? What Wii games bombed from Namco Bandai on the Wii? Tell me please I'm dying to know. Of course shit will sell badly, but I dont recall any bomb. Stop with the stealth trolling kiddo.

Accept that ES bombed... Their Wii games in Japan: ToS2 sold 240k, We Ski 140k, One Piece: UA 110k, Tamagotchi: Party On! 60k, Family Trainer 130k, One Piece :UC 60k in 3 days, Mario Super Sluggers 180k.

Such bombs... Sad

how does a game bomb when it sells 44% of its initial shipment on day 1?

Seriously, maybe we should stop using handpicked fanboys and teens on this forum as the end all be all to coming back to say "ZOMG da gamez bombed look at da predickshun threadz"

Seriously, look at the shipment......shipment, shipment, shipment. 90% of the prediction here were more than the shipment. ES did normal. period.

Japan PS3 owner don't like RPG, ES is a good game. i predict LR will have better sales on Xbox 360.
