Straight up ports usually suck IMO. Unless Namco Bandai actually recoded the game with the PS3 hardware in mind, this port was doomed to fail from the beginning, just like other 360 ports that the PS3 have gotten (ie. Enchanted Arms, Lost Planet, etc). I'd like to see what the reviews were like for the PS3 version. If I remembered correctly Famitsu gave the 360 version a 35/40.

According to what a couple of my Japanese friends say, Eternal Sonata is not very appealing to the Japanese gamers. The story is more geared towards a western audience as most Japanese gamers don't even know who Chopin is plus they generally prefer the prototypical "boy finds sword and goes save the world from monsters and evil wizards" JRPG premise. So despite whatever hype this game may have had, it's not a game that would sell millions in Japan, regardless of what platform it is on.
