Forums - Sales - was the 360 price cut really effective in NA

@Zenfolder: Yes they are about legs, but the practice of price cuts has given us an almost predictable amount of sales from a week, three weeks, a month, etc after this happens, and so far, the 360's performance isn't that impressive and I highly doubt that we aren't experiencing a high point, but in a sense I do agree that there will be some lasting benefits from this, mabey 50% more for america but even then, that seems a bit weaker than what MS needs.

Impressive boost. Nice way to bump up the numbers just prior to the beginning of the big game launch season.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Yeah it's pretty bad, but maybe it will make a difference with the holiday shoppers

if you were a gamer who owned a PS3 and was looking at getting a 360... would you get one now or wait till at least Fable 2 was out?  How many will sell on the build up for Christmas?  I think that for Sept number and no really big games like last year's Sept it did well.

Is it just me, or does it seem like some people would downplay an increase in 360 sales, even if they quadrupled?

This week wasn't that impressive, considering that there was a whopping 28% cut for the entry level xbox, from $275 down to $200, and a 28% cut is more than anything else done in this generation.  With the PS3's new model coming out, that basically reduced the price from $500 down to $400 and that would make only a 20% cut.  Price matters man, but the bottom line is that the 360 hasn't gotten the boost that it needs so its gonna have to settle for less apparantly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the PS3 dropped it's price - VGC didn't show a massive rise, did it?

http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=X360&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=America&cons3=X360&reg3=America&start=39341&end=39705

Ultimately, the price drop in the USA will be judged by October, November and December - Not 2 weeks in September. Having said that, 180,000 units in 2 weeks (whereas it was selling around 100,000 in a similar timeframe) isn't too bad. If it sustains these type of sales for quite some time, that will be considered a success.

If anyone would like to argue that "it's pretty bad", I'd LOVE to see some hard numbers from ANYWHERE that show that the price drop should of jumped sales even more. Check the PS3 and X360 drops last year - neither had major, quick boosts, but had good increases that showed major upward trends.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

If I remember correctly these sales are pretty similar to the ones 360 had with the temporary price-cut earlier this year. Then it started out around 80-90k and then increased slightly until the stock was depleted and sales went down to previous levels. That indicates that this could become the new "normal" level of sales in the future.

Consistency over the next 3-4 weeks shall tell. As of now, not too much.

So an extra 30,000 a week for 4 weeks, that's a boost of 120,000.... Not too good for a price cut. However, I believe people are forgetting the holiday season, that is when we will see if the price cut was successful or not. As of now, all they've done is devalued their console.
