Forums - PC - Tiniest PC running XP/Linux

You all can laugh now, but that thing is better than my previous tower. Blistering fast Pentium II 300 MhZ with awesome 128 mb RAM and and Intel integrated video card with 4 GB of HDD. It's still in my garage back home. Worked flawlessly back in '98.

gumstix are smaller than this, although they don't run XP because they use an ARM processor. They do run linux though. The cheap one is also $130. I thought about getting one and stashing it somewhere on the university network as a proxy server so I can continue to get institutional access to journals after I graduate :)

It uses standard 2´5 hdd´s, easily installed. You could drop in a 500gb hard drive if you wanted.

ssj12, if you manage to get one mind sharing video playback performance?

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Huge Key!!

Anyway, I don't understand why desktop towers have not decreased in size. Most people (non gamers) only need the stats that this thing has, the only problem with it is 2 usb ports - keyboard mouse and no more room.

it has another usb port in the back

actually 500mhz is a bit slow. My sister complains about her 1.3GHz laptop being slow. I basically have to clean the cache out and everything every two weeks.

500 MHz is definitely slow. You won't be opening a few tabs at a time in Firefox, or listening to music while browsing...500 MHz is a one-at-a-time deal.

Coincidence because tonight my dad's old Pentium III PC finally is dying, so I gotta help find a new cheap PC for him. This obviously isn't it, but I was considering building a micro PC.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I could see it used as a web server. It could also serve up music. It would be cool to put one of these in your car. You could connect to a web server on it to check stats from your cars OBD-II port. You could also connect to it from your home PC and move music to it.

There are lots of uses for a little box like this.
