I'm still skeptical.

First Resistance had all the cutscenes prerendered, just like Uncharted and (most of) Gears of war.
Who's to say this one doesn't have them prerendered as well. Sure, it looks realtime, but let's play it safe.

I'm skeptical too.

Uncharted used all the same assets across the board. Textures, graphics, etc. Here's a link:

"Patrick: The characters in Uncharted are some of the most impressive video game models to date. They look even more impressive up close in the cutscenes. Are the in-game models any different from the cutscene models?

Richard: Thanks! Nope, the in game models are the exact same models that are used in the cutscenes. They also use the exact same textures. There really is no difference between them at all.
The only difference between the cutscenes and in game is a little higher quality lighting and shadowing. Hopefully not too noticeably different. We really wanted to keep the players immersed as much as possible. This meant using the same assets across the board."

Also, Resistance 2, from the podcasts have said, this uses all in game assets. The only thing they manipulate is the camera, the intercense. It can all be done in game, it is used to mask loading.

So what if they use in-game assets? I'm talking about real-time rendering. They can have as many characters/effects/sounds/physics simulations going on if they don't have to worry about how long it takes to render a frame. But for actual gameplay, there obviously is a limitation as to how much you can do in a single frame. I'm just skeptical that the cutscene was rendered real-time, not that the art assets used aren't the in-game art assets.

exactly what the man said ^

Now, if the cutscene is realtime, it's all fine & dandy, if not, it is basically useless.

I know people compare Gears2 to R2 constantly because of the close release dates on rival consoles, but come on ! ones a Third person shooter and ones a First person shooter, if anything Gears should be compared to uncharted and MGS4, and R2 to Halo, Cod4 and Bioshock.

Systems owned: NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox360

Currently Playing: UNCHARTED 2 !!

Waiting for: FFXIII, GoW3, GT5, Mass Effect 2

I guess the graphics are pretty good. It seems like the motion is strange though, unnatural, maybe it's something they can fix... e.g. the trucks seem sort of like they're "floating" across the ground in the beginning. I'm also not really a big fan of the art style, hopefully it's not all green and brown in the rest of the game.

What really seems to make the graphics work is the blur, giving a perception of a depth of field which makes it more realistic. Seems like something the Cell would be well suited for, you could just load an SPE with a blur function. However, the dead body on the ground at around 0:27 looks almost like a texture on a flat surface, sort of like a parallax-scrolled animation cel. Makes it look sort of like anime though.

I noticed that too with the trucks. It looked better when there was a closeup and you saw the dust kicking up behind the wheels, but I agree about when they first drive by.

What's wrong with the color? At least it's not all dark gray and brown and is actually sporting wilderness instead of the urban jungle.

I noticed that with the trucks, and thought, this is no MGS4 truck-driving scene...

Gears 2 has way, way more blur to objects in the distance than R2 has ever shown.

Of course the graphics will be better than the earlier trailers and such. All insomniac have been doing, and still are, is polishing. Both Kz2 and R2 will make the PS3 the console for choice with shooters starting from this holiday season.

I must say that I hate sales predictions, but, R2 does seem like it will go toe to toe all the way with Gears 2. =)

I found it to be low quality in storyboard. There was too much ambush fire and very little view. Not only was it anticlimactic, but the shower of plasma blasts looked extremely fake and overdone. Hale seemed rather generic to me. If Sony wants to have a front running shooter, they must have a character who stands out. Hale doesn't stand out in the least. Hale actually looks like he'd be one of Master Chiefs lower soldiers (See the halo marines to find out what  i'm talking about). I mean KZ2 doesn't give me a character, but it's gameplay, graphics and movies stand out on the PS3. I hopes this suffices without sounding too much like jibbrish. I had a couple Red Bulls and was pretty hyper while the friends were over.

pretty CGI's....

although I'm impressed, I hope they polish it more, i'm not as impressed as I thought I would be. Anyways, the camera techniques they talked about look awesome. It would've been cool/funny if Nathan was wearing the official PS blutooth head set. I find it funny how Hale didn't get shot yet his troops that were behind some form of cover did, always found stuff like that funny.
