It's common sense that SRPG sell less JRPG. Yet I still see those kinda responses.

 

Actually I would've expected Disgaea to do better, but that's probably because I like Disgaea more than Eternal Sonata.

 

Disgaea could've done a little better, but it didn't bomb, it met expectations. The one game that bombed was Initial D, I really expected more out of that game.

No Disgaea game has ever sold more than 150k and Disgaea 3 sold 110k.
VC is a SRPG so if you say it bombed with its 150k then so did Fire Emblem Wii and its 170k in Japan.....and FE is an established franchise.

 

 

I agree.  Disgaea has never been a high-selling franchise.  It's more of a cult classic that appeals to a small hardcore fanbase.  Disgaea 3 has sold about as much as Disgaea 1 & 2 have, and the PS3 has a much smaller install base than the PS2.  So if anything Disgaea 3 has exceeded expectations.

^They put Initial D 4th Stage on PS3? I'm surprised it bombed, I'm not too keen on sales but the graphics in that game are redonkulous for an arcade racer. Only reason I don't play it is because 3rd is 50 cents and 4th is 1 dollar and 2 dollars for a nice shiny card....shiny card...shiny...

2 years and PS3 finally gets one jrpg? Ouch



PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

Valkyria Chronicles will end of selling close to Fire Emblem. So definetly not a flop.

Eternal Sonata is very unpredictable. Anywhere from 40K to 120K I would think lol. I will say 90K though.

Valkyria Chronicles - 129,835
Disgaea 3 - 93,227
TES: Oblivion - 49,114
Tears to Tiara - 42,319
Enchant Arms - 39,708
Argarest Senki - 23,688

I think it will debut around 50-60k, and end up just under Disgaea at around ~90k.

If Disgaea 3 is considered a bomb for a niche SRPG, then i guess all the other Disgaea games has floped aswell. One must wonder why Nippon Ichi continues to make disgaea games then? hmmmm? is it because they design their games for a niche hardcore SRPG audience in mind? Nah, Nippon Ichi just enjoys losing money.

As for Valkyrie... i doubt any one was expecting this game to be a huge success aswell.

Wait a minute, are you getting your numbers from famitsu? VGcharts has

Valkyria Chronicles - 147,936

Disgaea 3 - 108,777

Oblivion - 71,370 (not counting the 2k for The Best)

Tears to Tiara - 65,580

Enchanted Arms - missing

Argarest Senki - 29,323

 

You're a mod here and you chose Famitsu, I wonder why lol could it be it's because all Famitsu's numbers are smaller lol.....

 

Either way I don't think a year old port is gonna sell 90k, 50k LTD and 20k opening week at best
