no game history?
you are obviously ignoring all those video editing games and graphic design games they have. not to mention the best seller:
"why is itunes not working" game
the expansion to "itunes"

Sony would always exist in the gaming market in some form I believe , they have more development resources than Nintendo & Microsoft . Exclusive Sony support in a console war would be potentialy a determining factor.
i think if apple enters game business then i think they will go for portable market. the portable market is huge, and there is only sony and nintendo there with the psp having still big troubles.
also it fits much more to apples main business these days, since they mostly sell portable things.
i do think that sony have neglected there other businesses there TV's are awful now mp3 players cannot compete and viao or what ever are rubbish they should go back to there other parts cos they are dying

Do you think an I phone that has hardware as powerful as a Dreamcast with wi fi, GPS, and touch screen and as small as it is would retail for $199 initially? They launched it at $599 and $699 and that was the right price, they are just trying to buy marketshare now. |
rofl @ this, from a hardware standpoint the iPhone is definatly not all that great. It's the software that makes the iPhone so great. Apple were over-charging for the iPhone when it came out, and now they're being more reasonable.
You guys have no imagination.
Let's face it, if Apple launched the Wii (a very Applisque console already) instead of Nintendo it'd be leading this generation. It wouldn't be as strong as it is currently since it'd lack Nintendo's built in (albeit small) fanbase but assuming Apple had conceived of the Wii series along with the Wii, it'd would have a similar game library to what the Wii has now. Few games were originally made for Wii since no one thought it would be successful so it started much like an Apple Console would - with limited support. Except Apple wouldn't have to deal with the 'Only Nintendo games sell on...' mentality so they'd likely have even better 3rd party support at this point than Nintendo does with Wii.
Also Apple is ALREADY getting 3rd party support for i-phone games (which are selling well). So that argument is flawed.
It would be stupid for Apple to target the core gamer anyway. Sony & MS are already having a bloodletting over that crowd. What they could do is expand the market even more than Nintendo is doing and in that respect no one would be better positioned than Apple.
No one expected Apple to get into music - now they are the leaders.
No one expected Apple to get into communications - now they are a major player in that market too.
Will Apple get into gaming (more than with i-phones)? Who knows?! But if they do expect them to come in from a unique angle and target a different set of people than Sony & MS (although they may steal some of those too). In fact I'd expect most people on sites like this would whine 'It's not a TRUE game system' and be partly right.
Nor will they go in with MS & Sony's strategy of selling systems at a loss. They will sell them at a profit (no doubt a good profit) but make their system so compelling for multiple reasons and overall 'coolness' that people will be willing to pay the asking price (which will drop in time anyway).
If done right they can sit in 2nd, 3rd or even last place and make a profit (like the Gamecube) but they'll be gunning for 1st and I wouldn't underestimate Steve Jobs.
i dont think sony will quit for a long time

This is a good point, so you win the internetz. However, I want them to keep making hardware because imo Playstation has gotten the balance between hardcore and casual stuff down the best. And obviously there in house stuff is amazing. Better than Nintendo imo, but that's not a popular belief here.

exacly what he said :)
This is also a major reason why the playstation brand has gotten so strong.
wow ! apple ????
SONY made an accomplishment by selling over 100 million with one console (twice) which no other console ever did....why would they leave ????because they are making too much money ??...
