i don't think anyone wants to play games where the premise is that you conform to a stereotype through individuality.
jk, honestly though, they have no game support. apple has always been looked at as the "professional's" company

Sony went from getting a bunch of R&D and launch ideas from Nintendo to first. They also hired Ken Kutargi from Nintendo after the SNES CD plans fell through. Sure they were never on the market but they went full steam after they had a few coals stuffed in their oven. As opposed to phillips which tried to create a god awful hybrid system. Apple is not a god company they do have one of the best marketing business out there and it is good to see them revived after the 90's but their presence in any market does not guarentee success. |
you make it sound as if nintendo is responsible for sony's success

@OP: No, why? There's nothing to suggest that Apple would take over and rule the world with a new console, unless the other 3 major players pull out and leave the playing field wide open for them.
4 competing consoles is unprecedented as far as I know so Apple would have a really hard time with this console of theirs against three major, influental and established manufacturers imo.

Why is my name on there?
OT: No sony would have to mess up terrible to do that...
Former something....

They will probably make an interesting console with great online components and be willing to sell at a loss to their huge fan base. Anything with the letter "I" seems to sell for them from I pods to I phones. Will Sony be willing to go another round against both Apple and Microsoft seeing that both those companies have tons more cash to burn than Sony does at the moment? They were the big dog against Nintendo and Sega in 1995 but the tables have turned now if Apple joins the race. |
why would sony leave.. ?... .. you asked for it..
Sometimes though.. a jpeg isn't enough..
| jenny said: Apple will be willing to sell a console at a loss! Do you think an I phone that has hardware as powerful as a Dreamcast with wi fi, GPS, and touch screen and as small as it is would retail for $199 initially? They launched it at $599 and $699 and that was the right price, they are just trying to buy marketshare now. |
Apple doesn't sell the iPhone at a loss. AT&T does. They also make that money back with the 2 year contracts they make their customers sign. If Apple were to enter the console business (again) they would do so gradually, like how they are entereing the handheld gaming market.
I don't know about Sony, but if Apple did enter the home console market, you can be sure that MS would throw more funding towards the XBox than that of most armies. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an MS led "Coalition of the Willing" formed between Sony and Microsoft ;).
Different demographics .. different target markets/customers .... different business goals ... different mission statements ...
Just because a company has tonnes of cash reserves doesn't mean its invincible and can't go bankrupt ......
Off topic: It's sad to see Lehman Brothers filing for bankruptcy ='[

I'm right here!!!

^_^
MS at least had some experience making PC games, Apple doesn't have any (except for those iPhone games). They would have 0 third-party support, 0 fanboys, 0 brand name. Not a good way to start. And I don't think that Sony would quit the industry because of it.
who said iphone is a flop? lmao bahahahahha i bahahahahha at you...
and they have already tried partly - pippin
i could see them entering next gen tho :) it would prolly rival nintendo not sony...
