Very impressive ...the shortages the last two weeks ,the price drop and the very close release of Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery has pulled the miracle and the 360 is above both the PS3 and the Wii.

Now Sony and Nintendo should do something ....Nintendo announce some good games for once and Sony should release a SKU and games that the japanese actually like.

Very interesting to see an American console lead the pack for a change in Japan. The question is moreso what does Sony do if they lose the Japan HD market to Microsoft? Then they won't have control in any region. Do they make a PS3 version of the "arcade" model and strip out the Blu Ray and release a cheaper unit?

As much as I would love to see that happen... it won't. The PS3 has done far better than 28,000k a week before with a much larger price range and much smaller library.

Alot of you guys are getting far to ahead of yourselves, getting caught up in the hype.

It's unfortunate that this sales spike will be short lived because Microsoft deserves more for leading the Japanese market in terms of effort. But I reckon than when LBP and WKC is released in Japan, the PS3 sales will easily spike higher than 28k without a price cut. It's the sad truth.

EDIT: Sony doesn't have control in any region, the Wii is the one in control now. Regardless, the 360 cannot stop the PS3 in Europe and Japan.

True, I'm just saying that if the 360 can somehow make itself likeable in Japan, it might win popularity, as the PS3 is only selling an average of 10k/ week lately. If the 360 were to get to a point where it sells more than the PS3 on a weekly and monthly basis, will it pull more ps3 exclusive devs away from the Japanese market? It's likely not to happen, but what if it does. Regarding your edit, I specifically said HD market. I know the Wii is unstoppable at this point in this generation. Even MS admitted that. =)

im quite surprised at how people are reacting to this. Coming off a sub 1k week to this coupled with price drop, restocks and a new RPG from SE? Please. Anyone thinking this is a trend is outside of their mind....the 360 has shown a trend proven with this.....and Trusty Bell and Lost Oddysey and Blue Dragon and Tales (although the shortage rendered it void but im confident it would have happened)....and that trend is JRPG = short boost and everytime people think the heavens are opening and MSFT is turning it around and then in 4 weeks it will be back 3k.

The only reason the 360 is "trending" better is because of the string Tales and IU, and Last Remnant will only increase it. Sales will spike leading to increased trends, no doubt, for th elong term view and averages. But besides that this week is merely the price drop, IU spike....in fact id be more comfortable making the argument between virtually no 360's available for 3 weeks, IU releasing and a PRice drop....this isnt very good.

A very positive week which is sadly being overplayed and underplayed by a great many posters. This weeks numbers show one thing the Japanese are starting to take notice of the games and more importantly the library for the console. Were the library not there this game would not have boosted sales this greatly.

I neither expect the sales to plummet under five thousand per week, or to stay in the stratosphere. However I do think the console in Japan has reached a point where it can sustain weekly sales in the five digit mark for many weeks straight. Which is not just good for the console in the general sense. That will put it more on par with the PS3 in weekly sales for much of the remaining year.

Now if Microsoft parlays this into a winning formula of weekly victories over Sony in Japan. I expect Sony to respond by enacting a decent price cut on their console. Which would feasibly restore the balance to a previous state. I am far from bullish on Sony cutting console prices, and anyone who has posted here for quite some time knows this. However I honestly think face saving could be a factor in Japan.
I doubt Sony will tolerate the situation if Microsoft sells on par with their console.

Price Drop + IU = Major Win for MS

Hey didn't Steve Ballmer send an e-mail to 27000 MS employees commanding them to get a vacation and spending it peremptorily shopping at Akihabara?

A lot of deluded 360 fans here. Yes this is amazing for the 360 in Japan. It is pretty poor for a console in Japan though. Remember how much the PS3 did the week MGS4 released? 80K. A console should be selling more than 28k after a price drop, pent up demand from short supply and an exclusive from Square enix.

Don't start thinking this is the beginning of something new. The 360 will be back in the 3-5K range in a few weeks.

Not Suprising Considerin it's cheaper than Wii and Big Realease. What Did $400 $500 PS3 do MGS4 week in Japan 87k no?
