mario kart is a casual game. are you actually suggesting it isnt...or have i misinterpreted what you said?

You misinterpreted.  I meant when MK came out this past spring, we had seen the impact of the casual audience on consoles, and as such many of us expected MK to see stellar sales as a bridge title (selling to both casuals and the core).

In 2006, I doubt many of us expected these casuals at all...

Seriously. MK outselling Halo?  Think back to the days of the Gamecube and try and tell me you saw that coming...

Erm, you realise Mario Kart Double Dash has sold more than the orignal Halo right?

Had I thought about it, I would have seen this coming yes, the GameCube failed in the markets where Mario Kart matters most (Europe and Japan) If it hadn't Double Dash could have outsold Halo 2 as well.... Mario Karts appeal is huge.

Halo's appeal is mostly limited to Americans (as are a lot of XB and X360 games) and the XB happened to do quite well in America.

Good point about DoubleDash.  I always forget it had stellar sales because so many people consider it the Black Sheep of the Mario Kart family (personally its actually my favorite).

Still, MKWii's sales will blow it out of the water.  Maybe the surprise is not so much that it will beat Halo, but that it will win by such a large margin.

^Yes I guess so.... Before MKWii released though I and a number of others were betting it to be the 4th best selling game of this generation (home consoles) after the 3 Wiis

And I believe I set a bar of 15 million for it to surpass.... Which it should do easily by the looks of it now.

It could pass 20 million if it keeps legs like the DS version.

Very interesting, though I still dont get why so many people love Mario in general, or Halo..... they should have bought Uncharted....

While I applaud Uncharted for being a quality game (well I assume so, unless it is glitchy or something) It looks to me like it plays similar to Tomb Raider games, and I found them very dull.

Having said that I also found Halo (original) to be dull.

You don't understand why I like Mario, I don't understand why you like Uncharted; why should either have bought the product he didn't like?

When did MK become casual. I remember playing the SNES MK and I don't recall my family that wasn't into games liking it. Oh wait it's casual because it sells to everyone. game insecurity :P

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Why no Wii Play. Sold at retail just like every other game. I mean I understand Wii sports but Wii Play exclusion makes no sense.

Anyways yes they are the best selling and actually MK Wii is selling so fast it's one of the fastest selling games of all time. And it hasn't even hit a holiday season like some of the fastest such as GTA: San Andreas and Halo 2 and 3. Impressive ain't it.

Is there a reason I can only see Halo 3's sales in the graph?

I wouldnt neccesarily say this, but a lot of people might say its casual now because it has less depth than previous iterations.  The controls are more accessible tho, definitely.  In Doubledash you had to actually do alot more to be competitive.  MKWii still takes skill and time to learn, but the amount of inputs you use has been decreased significantly.

Really its a bridge game which makes it count as both casual and hardcore (so it really does sell to "everyone").
