A $299 slim would sell like hotcakes. Many current PS3 owners would rebuy theirs, not to mention that loads of people to whom the PS3 is too expensive would buy one.
Dude, were you not around when the slim ps2 was released and everyone went crazy buying slim ps2's?
The answer is simple = better, cheaper and smaller. When it comes to gadgets (not female or male body parts), smaller is better! mobile fones, mp3 players, PDA's, laptop's etc etc
The Japanese clearly prefer smaller game systems like the slim PS2 so a slim PS3 would significantly improve sales there.
Can't speak for anyone else, but I would definitely buy a second PS3 at $299 if it used about half (or less) the wattage of my original model.
Smaller footprint, quieter, less heat, less power, lower price? I'd buy one right now if it were available.
I have a feeling that a lot of fans of the PS3 would probably do the same.
Makes me wish it didn't take Sony 4-5 years to do the component reduction/die shrink process that make the slim line models possible.
Unfortunately, it won't happen until the CBE/RSX are switched to a 45nm die.
because of the effct it ha don PS2

People who thought the PS3 was too expensive would probably buy a "fat" PS3 for $299. And are there that many people who would trade in their "fat" PS3 and spend the money just to get a slim model? (I honestly don't know. I have a fat PS2 and think the slim PS2 look cute, but I'm not about to spend the money to upgrade unless mine breaks). Couldn't "A $299 fat PS3 would sell like hotcakes" be said and be equally true?
I looked at the data around 2003 to 2005 for the PS2 and it did not appear that sales were any higher after the slim launched. I'm not sure if there were price cuts or shortages that affected this time period. I do believe the PS3 slim will probably get a price cut since Sony will want to get as much hype as possible around their relaunch.

Do you have a link? This is exactly what I'm looking for. I wonder how far behind price was size a concern?
I think they should. Every time i go to my cottage (the last 2 years anyways) I've brought up my PS3 in my suitcase, and let me tell you its not very fun lugging around a 13 pound console in your suitcase. A smaller version would be much better.
even if the above example of a slim version being helpful doesn't apply to you, what do you have to lose from having a slimmer console??
