Forums - Gaming - Moore: Microsoft was “completely fixated on Sony”

Well Neither Sony nor Microsoft saw Nintendo as a threat this gen. Before they were not competing with Wii because they didn't see Wii as a threat. Now they are not competing with Wii because they realise they have no chance.

i dont see wii as a threat to ps360

both sets of products appeal to different types of gamers

the games and services that are ofered on ps360 are far higher quality than that on wii imo.

ps360 is aimed primarily at the core gamer

wii is primarily aimed at family/party/girl gaming mostly with a few exceptions, hopefully nintendo will change thier strategy and push out more proper games, but i wouldnt count on it. there making so much money they dont need to.

nintendo have done well though with thier product, i congratulate them for thier vision, unfortunatly this gen wii isnt for me.

"Microsoft to play, we truly believe in Xbox as being something that can… there was a little bit of a concern with Sony – we wanted to keep them out of the living room, from a software and services perspective. And then I started work at Microsoft on February 1 2003."

Haha just saw that while reading the rest of the interview, EXACTLY what I thought. Whoever says Microsoft is some kind of agent of consumer choice is kidding themselves. They're in it to REMOVE choice not to add to it.

You didn't already know this?  The motive for their entering the console market has been known since the original Xbox was made public.

As to your comments on Nintendo in the previous post: Nintendo is a game company.  They have and will continue to innovate in that market be it with their software or hardware (interfaces in particular).  Bringing a swiss army knife to the entertainment center that also happens to play games and bringing more and faster integrated circuits into the mix is not innovation, but instead the continuous evolution that fabrication and manufacturing afford us as their means improve over time.

It's all about what you value in the end.  This being a video game site and these foremost game consoles, you can guess what it is I value when I look at these devices.  It sure isn't whether the machine allows me to watch my video library.

I like the part about "compete with - or aquire", that sounds like good 'ol Microsoft to me! I you can't beat them, buy them!

Major shortsightedness on M$ part. Now they're fighting for scraps with sony while nintendo charges ahead with no competition whatsoever. Look what their price cuts did to wii sales LMAO.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I do agree Microsoft's move, the bigger the MS grow the better the consumer gains.

of course. Sony was market leader.

That's what led them to launching so early.

They wanted to follow Sony's exact footsteps to insure victory... We see how well that worked out.y

Sony's in last for the first time in over a decade, is that what you meant by how well it worked?

(Yeah I know Nintendo is also to blame, but last is still last)

I was more on the train of releasing the console early knowing it would RRoD, just to be first to launch.  Also buying up exclusives that don't matter GTA IV DLC, Ace combat, etc, that haven't pushed it ahead of PS3.  360 is still riding it's year head start which is why it's still ~5.5 mil ahead of the PS3.  I was also on the train of buyin Japanese support to different effects.  BD and LO did okay, but IU looks to be tankerriffic, which is from S-freakin-E.

It's a mixed bag, and I hope that MS has learned that there is no set strategy to winning a console race, as it always changes, and this generation it was all about t3h cazualz, and not about copy and pasting what went well last generation.  So in the idea that any console maker wants to be in first place, it hasn't worked out too well for Microsoft (Obviously it hasn't worked out well for Sony either, but they're not the discussion topic at hand, that's a whole nother thread).
