Forums - Microsoft - XBOX360 £110 price cut int 3 Years, PS3 £125 in 18 months

PS3 already  have more pice cut , in just 18 months, so Xbox 360 price cut is actully a very good plan, they choose this year, and a very good month to begin with.

Xbox 360 launched 3 years ago at £280. The same model (well, actually it's better as it now has HDMI and 60gb HDD), is now £170. That's £110 price cut in 3 years.

PS3 launched in 18 months ago for £425. It now costs £300. That's £125 in 18 months, ie, half the time.

PlayStation 3 will reach the UK on March 23 was swiftly drowned by howls of outrage from consumers (expressed vehemently on The Guardian's gamesblog) regarding the next-gen console's RRP of £425

I think it would be very interesting to see Sony do a price cut on the PS3 to combat the 360.

Also, where's your source for this (if you were quoting from something)?

yeah i agree with you they relly need it right now or they gonna losse this year over the 360

that is the real price when xbox 360 launch, and ps3 launch, if you live in UK or you will now about that, or google is your friend

Well,

The difference is that PS3 WAS and IS expensive.

While the Xbox360 WAS expensive but IS NOT anymore expensive.

That makes sense to drop the PS3 price, less to drop the price of the xobx360.

Time to Work !

The PS3's are different models though.

The 60GB with BC was £425, then it got a price cut to £350. Then the 40GB without BC was introduced at £300, which has now changed to an 80GB without BC, which is still £300.

So if I took the launch price of the premium 360, which was £280 and compared it to the arcade price now, which is £130, then thats a price cut of £150. But that would be unfair.

So basically the PS3 has had a price cut of £75 and introduced a cheaper model, in 18 months.

You shouldn't compare the 80gb/40gb PS3 to the 60gb PS3.

60gb PS3 = 425 pounds at launch.
20gb PS3 = Didn't launch.

then:

60gb PS3 price cut = 350 pounds
40gb/80gb PS3 (20gb replacement) = 300 pounds.

So a better comparison is 170 pound 360 vs. 180 pound Wii vs 300 pound PS3.
OR 20gb 360 -> Arcade 360 = 150 pound price drop vs. 60gb PS3 -> 40gb PS3 = 110 pound price drop.

In the end the reason people are making a big deal about this is because 60gb 360's are now cheaper than the Wii and the arcade isn't much more than the Wii... hell the Arcade 360 is even getting close in price to the PS2... in addition to that M$ dropped the price in Europe a mere 6 months ago, and this sort of price drop makes it likely that M$ is beginning to end this console generation by getting ready to announce a new console in 2009 or 2010.
