your gonna be able to pick it up for the same as a ps2 now.. how on earth do they ever imagine to get any of their cash back ? lol.

Again this is usually microsofts plan.. they try to squeeze everyone else out and take te market completely so they can strangle everyone and overprice everything.

so what did nintendo do by charging 250 bucks for a gamecube plus? Or sony by charging 600 dollars for ps3? You act as if only microsoft would try to add more profits after success! MY WORD EVIL M$

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

I guess MS sells the 360 at a pricepoint where they just break even. That is something sony can just dream of right now. MS is doing a great job to get more and more customers and establish the Xbox brand. They will make a profit with software anyway.

Surely you didnt know how much money there gaming division lost last quarter? Now that the XBOX 360 is even cheaper, they are likely no longer turning profit on the console.

I dont see microsoft getting any profit after loosing money last quarter, unless that loss was all on FF XIII.

Yes selling the PS3 for 250 dollars less than what it really costs, is so bad.

A little piece of information for you: MS doesn't HAVE a gaming division. It's all part of the Home and Entertainment Division which also has such great financial successes as the Zune, and they don't break down which product is making or losing how much money. It's entirely possible that the 360 business is profitable, but the division itself is being bogged down by other failing products.

I understand the price cut in America but in Europe i dont beacuse they already drop the price about 6 months ago maybe desperation maybe not, in Europe the ps3 is most expanisve console of all three regions and it still ousells 360 by average 30k weekly so i guess Microsoft will do anything to prevent that even if it means loosing money.

They are as desesperate.

As someone as pointed out in N4G comment :

PS3 is expensive : it makes sense to drop

Xbox360 is already the cheapiest : it makes no sense to drop the price

... except if u re desesperate !

BWHAHAHA cheapiest is the coolest word I have ever heard (or read in this case)!

Just kiss the tip.

I think that if Microsoft cuts the price of the Xbox 360 in Europe as often that's because they have difficulties in Europe ... it is obvious! 360 has a bad image here in Europe, except uk ... PS3 sells twice 360 with a higher price, definitely the price of the Xbox is not the problem ... for many Europeans the 360 is a low-end PS3 ...

Yea sure.... a HD-less XBox360 costs $250 to manufacture. Factor in the much higher taxes in Europe than in the states and you can probably figure out yourself if MS makes a profit in Europe when all shops start selling the Arcade at $199 (and all shops want to make a small profit on that $199 final price). My best guess is MS hopes that Arcade buyers will see the need to buy a (way overpriced) HD for their gadget sooner or later. If too many people replace their RROD-endangered old XBox360s with a new Arcade model and simply swap harddisks, then MS quarterly reports (Entertainment division) might turn rather reddish pretty fast...(not that Bill & cohorts cared, they have all the money to sink into the XBox gadgets).
