Forums - Gaming - Peter Moore - Sony didn’t deliver with the Emotion Engine and Killzone 2

Judging by the concequences of the old Sony PR, we need more of it to outsell the 360 this christmas.

There's nothing to be taken personally (unless you dumped 600$ on a ps3, ouch) but Peter Moore ain't that far from the truth. That's the way Sony marketing operates on a global level: overpromising and buzzwords.
You know for a fact that it's common for most companies to use hype to push products.  If smart enough, just see past it since it's so commonplace.  And your statement "unless you dumped 600$ on a ps3, ouch" is very telling of your biasness and singleling out against SONY.
True, but they don't hype empty buzzwords. You ask a sony rep what exmor is and he'll tell you it's the most amazing thing on the planet. You ask a jvc rep what prohd is and he'll tell you it's HDV capturing progressive. Slight difference there.
In regards to consoles: Atari VCS (Video Computer System) / Atari 2600 = same thing.  Famicom (Family Computer) / NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) = same thing.  Who cares.  Sega Saturn (Is this console the second largest planet in out solar system???)  Dreamcast (Is this console casting dreams or is it running games in reality???)  Who cares.

120Hz refresh rate in newer HDTV.  Sometimes it's called "True Flow" or "Motion Flow."  Who cares.

Sharp uses uses "Aquos" in their LCD TV's.  So what?  All LCD TV's are "liquid."

Wega, Vista, Regza, Bravia, Bluetooth, Rainer, etc.  You're finding such small reasons for big "justifications."

This makes no sense to me.  You are comparing branding that makes things sound cool/appealing to marketing that claims that that branding denotes the Second Coming of Christ and not slightly improved fillrate or whatever.

Family Computer - "Computer" used to be a more vague word, and the Japanese mangle English all the time and don't even care.  I saw instant noodles over there branded "U.F.O."  I looked closer and it said, "Unidentified Flying Object".  Yes, they knew what UFO stood for -- they just didn't care.  It doesn't matter.

Saturn - Now you're just being silly.  You think the Honda Prelude is misleading to customers if there isn't a sequel?  Shut up.

"True Flow" - Think of it this way:  If I ask what "Full-HD" means, and one guy explains what 1080p means and why it's a better picture, and another guy tells me how it'll "bring the movie theater into your house", which one gave me a real answer?

Aquos and all the rest - See Saturn.

OMG THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS SAYING THE PS2 LAUNCH GAMES WILL LOOK LIKE TOY STORY 2

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

He said he would've done it too. The guy is just crying because Sony beat him to it.

Everyone knows KZ1 sucked. Killzone Liberation fixed some of the flaws for PsP and KZ2 will fix the rest. If Sony put everything they wanted to in consoles it would be around the same price as the PC so they promise things then realize consumers won't buy it and strip things.

Have you guys forgotten the amount of bullshit around the PS2 launch? It was even worse than with the PS3... saying that the PS2 failed to deliver on a lot of its promises is hardly trolling, even though I agree that the vast library of games more than made up for it.

That article makes me lol. Funny thing is, they did just the same thing with the PS3.

"4D Graphics"... that look pretty much just like the 360.

"Power of the Cell!" ...that's a pain in the arse to develop for, so nobody uses it.

"Blu-Ray is necessary for a next-gen system!" ...except it's not.

"Linux support!" ...that runs like a PC from ten years ago.

"Hundreds of third-party games in development as of E3 2005!" ...most of which turned out to be vaporware, cancelled, or went multiplatform.

It’s so funny how things are said at Sony WTH!! Sony do you know what 4D is? I laugh every time I think about what they said back then.

Moore's not on a roll, he's a troll.

No, he's exactly right. He's just calling Sony out on their past foibles and saying, "if they promised here and didn't deliver, then how can we believe them now?"

How can we believe them? by playing KZ2. It was one of the most impressive games at GDC.

Not really

He is right, Sony spoke so much shit about the ps2, they said it would have Toy Story 2 graphics etc. If was not for the ridiculous sony hype, the DC might have had more of a chance.
If you compare what games the DC had and what the ps2 had in its first 2 years, I would take the DC anyday.

Let's clarify something here.  SONY referred to the Toy Story comment in regards to FMV in Onimusha (which actually happened), NOT gameplay.  Microsoft (Gates) were the ones who claimed that the original Xbox was capable of Toy Story graphics (which DIDN'T happen).  This Toy Story fiasco was severly taken out of context by both media and fanboys alike.  In actually, both PS2 and Xbox has the processing power to produce non-FMV Toy Story Graphics, but in regards to gameplay, it was too taxing on the hardware to sustain that quality of the visuals.  So for those who though SONY lied in regards to Toy Story graphics, please think again.  Microsoft were the ones who lied.

You are an idiot: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/02-27-2000/0001150833&EDATE

Levy explains that the secret is the Emotion Engine, a fast, high-powered
chip set that is fine-tuned to generate the polygons that are the building
blocks of 3-D graphics.  PlayStation 1 could handle 360,000 polygons per
second.  Version 2 can handle 20 million, a jump from "South Park" to "Toy
Story."  "It's historic, a mass-market appliance that fundamentally changes
society in the way the printing press did," Trip Hawkins, founder of
Electronic Arts and CEO of 3DO, tells Newsweek.  "This is a new canvas for
humanity that takes us back to our nature."

And in regards to Killzone (the first on might I add), Moore's comment is at best opinionated. If you check the average ranking of Killzone on Gamerankings, you'll find that it's 73%. BUT if you actually check the individual scores, you'd find that they range anyware from 3 out of 10 to 10 out of ten. This imples that the game didn't cater to some while it did cater to others. Therefore, it did deliver. Some gameplay styles do not appeal to some. While not all games are perfert, some people can see past certain flaws to enjoy the game as a whole.

This is not even about gameplay styles.

Some things in games are not open for debate, framerate, AI difficulty curve and things like that are NOT open for debate and those things ARE things Killzone struggled with.

One can argue about their importance yes but one has to question media outlets that give a clearly unfinished game like Killzone 1 a ten out of ten.

killzone 2 is better than the 05 trailler and what i can say for the ps2 you alreay all know

As someone who was present at E3 2k5 in all its 1080p/60fps glory and who has played Killzone2 since then I do think I am qualified enough to say that : IT DOESNT EVEN COME CLOSE
