The price drop seem more desperation then actual strategy. They might as well say "buy our product please, we wish to come 2nd this generation".
Europe prefers the PS3 over the 360. They have been even more put off by the RROD problems and disc scratching issues. BR is also something that is heavily advertised in stores such as HMV and ZIZZI. Only yesterday were they showing of Transformers on BR with queues of people standing gob smacked at the visuals... and guess what the sales assistants would say what BR player to go for? Yup, thats right, a PS3.
PS3 is like a fashion accessory/ gadget/ hub to PSP's/ BR player and a "cool" thing to own for a lot of kids in Europe (cool kids).
However, with the price drops coming to the 360, it is not a question of will it sell, it's a matter of "it better sell". If MS still fails to shift enough stock, they cant put their price back up, nor can they recoup as much money as they wish from software sales ( I think that's the strategy they are going for).
It is a very risky move and if it don't pay off, the future will look grim for what remains of this gen.
