Forums - Gaming - Sony NEEDS household names!! YOUR OPINION WANTED!

Sony did have some heavy hitters in the PS1/PS2 days. Letting franchises like Crash and Spyro get away was a mistake. I played Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and the number of franchises Nintendo has is staggering. Sony has a ton of great forgotten franchises too. Even crap like "Blasto" or the awesome "Twisted Metal" could have an impact if they're done right.

Nintendo is relying too much on older names (with a light sprinkling of new names). Sony is relying too much on unproven titles. Sooner or later, there must be a balance. Gamers like to be surprised, but we also like familiarity too.

i agree with TWRoO as most sony's franchises are crap

Sony needs to release the games they promised us period. They are capable of making tons of games. And as long as they are good, i don't care if its new or old.

I see what your saying and that probably is mostly true. A lot of sales tend to do with familiarity.

Is it just me or do you troll on any sony discussion there is?

Some of the IPs that are listed are not owned by Sony. They are actually owned by the developer. Sony just assumes publishing duties. Now, on topic, Sony is going in the right direction by developing more first party games. However, Sony has always been very dependent on third party support. This gen is no different. The only difference is that Microsoft is actually going after Sony's third party support and actually luring them to develop for the Xbox 360. This has hurt Sony massively.

No matter what games Sony develops. Their fans have been accustom to having Final Fantasy, Tales of, and other Japanese RPGs exclusively on their system. This is the reason why gamers purchased the PS3. With out these titles being exclusive in all regions. Sony is going to have problems especially in the West.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

I agree Sony experimented releasing a lot of new franchices, the most successful ones being Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm and Uncharted Drake's Fortune (Two biggest anticipated games this year are Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet). I think their strategy is to lure more new gamers early on within the console's lifecycle and they may not have wanted the bulk of PS2 gamers to upgrade too early within the console's lifecycle considering the enormous hardware costs. They couldn't have afforded selling many more new consoles than they did early on.

Sequels to big name proven franchises are dripping in slowly though, Metal Gear Solid 4 (already released), Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII (exclusive for Japan, where the series is most popular and crucial), Twisted Metal, WipeOut, Ape Escape, Tekken 6, Socom, Kingdom Hearts, God of War 3, etc they are all coming.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

It's good to try out new things. But having this many newbies may become a problem.
They should focus 70-30 on old franchises as opposed to the new ones, rather than the opposite (70 new, 30 old).
I mean, as I said, trying out new things is good, but if they look at other old things they've kept (DualShock), keeping them is much better. Metal Gear Solid 4 proves that.

Sony will prevail. My 60 gig says so.

PlayStation 3 Games:

- Rock Band
- Rock Band 2
- Soulcalibur IV
- LittleBigPlanet
- Guitar Hero: World Tour

we need Medievil 3 on PS3

Afrika and Lair can be thrown away lol. Afrika more or less, Lair most definitely.

They should really capitalize on these franchises....

-Little Big Planet: biggest console platforming idea to date. This game is going far. As well as the game is............HUGE! lol

-Resistance:premier AAA title for the PS3, this game kept ppl's hopes alive for the system. Sony should do the same for this game. It is an awesome franchise and should continue.

-Heavenly Sword: Simply love this game. It got harsh criticisms on release(some warranted, some payed by MS) but the game was still fantastic. It made some decent sales, actually reaching the million mark. With a sequel, if they add some small improvements, it could be a true AAA hit. The perfect duo alongside God of War.

-Uncharted: game was epic as well. Nothing wrong with it at all. many complained that it simply did nothing different. Fix that and you got a winner.

-White Knight Chronicles: the exclusive, and first big budget RPG that will be hitting the PS3 should be capitalized on. They should be doing all in their power to make sure this game comes over top of LO, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, and Tales(until on PS3). Make SE wish they had never waned their faith(by taking MS's money) in the system.
