Forums - Gaming - why japanese gamers hate FPS games ?

Different cultures.

Not a lot of western gamers like JRPG's either. (Although you'd think all gamers do looking through online forums).

Although JRPGs have been adopted more readily in NA and EU then FPS have in Japan.

Perhaps Japan as a culture is simply more traditional and less willing to try new things.

Western gamers love Japanese RPGs or at least Pokemon and FF.

OT, I don't know about Japanese gamers but I know why I don't like most FPS.  I find the controls to be hard to learn and bad in general.  Also, although I am in the Army, I think pretending to be in some type of special group of killers is silly.  If I am looking for multi-player experinces, I look for games that are more light hearted and fun (Wii Sports) or deeper (SSBB, SSFII, CivII).

I think you mean, Western gamers love the Japanese RPGs they ever heard of like Pokemon, FF, KH.  Japanese gamers don't hate FPSs, they are just indifferent towards them.

Sorry, PC gaming isn't dying. On the other hand console gaming like we know it is threatened.
(Wii = win, casuals = win, more than 7/10 games on PS3 has failed(/will fail?) to profit.) = you think hc-playing on consoles is going to stay? :)

To paraphrase you:

"More than 70% of PS3 games have or will fail to make a profit."

Where did you get that figure from?

It's absurd to the point of being amusing.

Read and cry(?),

He was about game industry generally, not just PS3. About 70% of the PC games also fail to make profit.

PC is by far the biggest gaming platform, has the highest profit margins, and has the cheapest development. I seriously doubt 70% of the games would fail. To be fair, I do doubt that only 30% of PS3 make profit.

Japanese culture has little experience with modern weapons. Modern weapons only really became important to the culture in the early 1900's, up until the end of WWII. After that, gun possession became illegal in the country and it ceased to have a significant military. Since modern weapons are such an alien concept to the culture, Japanese are probably not nearly as interested in a genre which is not only based on but emphasizes the concept of modern warfare.

On the other hand, America is a nation where one of the fundamental rights of citizens as outlined by the federal constitution is the possession of guns. Today, the debate seems to be more about whether to loosen gun-related restrictions even further than about making possession illegal, and the nation's army is by far the strongest in the world. It is not too surprising that many Americans feel at home with a genre based on modern weapons.

Because Japanese gamers don't like bald guys. If they had cool spiky hairstyles they would sell :)

This. And plus if the weighted 100 lbs and wore girly clothes.

On a serious note though, and more on topic, I watched a British Jason Statham movie (Bank Job, I think?) and found out that he was actually capable of making a good movie! It was so different than the stupid American Transporter films, the Bank Job actually had a half decent plot.

So basically, American values that stemmed from manifest destiny and the wild west of just flexing muscles and using brute force to conquer whatever just doesn't mesh with a lot of the rest of the world. And for the most part, FPS games have those blow everything up values strongly integrated into what they are.

Bank Job Ruled. I totally need to get the Special Edition DVD. Buying too many 360 and XBOX games at the moment.

"Let justice be done though the heavens fall." - Jim Garrison

"Ask not your horse, if ye should ride into battle" - myself

Japanese don't like to pretend to brutally kill people with guns via a dizzying first person perspective? Wait, what was the appeal of the genre again?
Seriosuly, I am American and I don't understand what's so fun about FPSes.
JRPGs FTW!

LOL at OP

Japanese players DO try out FPS some like them

but they don't like sensless violence..GoW doesn't sell there..just like GTA doesn't

they are not fans of sensless violence..since their early manga childhood there is a TON of violence..but everyone has a motive etc etc..and you get to learn the opponents motives and their reasoning

most Western FPS don't work in JP...because they all include massive ammounts of violence..without reason...

or just don't appeal (Counter strike/America's Army)

also...doesn't Starfox sell well in JP? what about Sin and Punishment..I heard it sold pretty good

and on the VC it's selling insane..

so...shooters aren't the problem..I think presentation is the issue

Why don't majority of westerners like sashimi? (raw fish/squid/other seafood not to be mistaken with sushi which is rice wrapped in seaweed)

Just down to preferences.
