Forums - Gaming - I need everyone to be open-minded about this Gears 2 vs Resistance 2 video

This is kind of like GOW 1 vs Resistance 1. The campaigns were pretty good (though Gears was WAY short), both had quality coop and both had good graphics/gameplay. Where Resistance pulled ahead was in the multiplayer with 32+ person maps, a rank leveling system and a bunch of other stuff (compared with the dinky 4v4 gears system). It looks to be similar this time, as the video says. They are more or less tied on the single player, but the multiplayer options are heavily in R2s favor. As a bonus R2 will be free to play online, win.

So, you're trying to say GeoW 1 was comparable, or perhaps worse than Resistance.....

Not trying to infer anything, but have you actually played either game?

I did not say worse in all respects, I said similar in all respects except multiplayer.  I finished both, if you don't believe my my 360 tag is impulsivity which has a completed hard difficulty GOW tag among other ones.

The failing was not the single player (which was more or less equal to resistance in my estimation, Gears had a little more action, Resistance was far longer with a better story/more interesting weapons and enemies) it was the Gears multiplayer.  In this day and age they can't handle more then a 4v4 game?  Most gears games were over in 3 minutes since there was only a tiny group to kill on both sides.  The objective based 16 on 16 matches in Resistance were far better done.  R2 vs Gears of War 2 just continues the more or less equal on single player with Gears left in the dust on multiplayer pattern.

For all the people who talk about the 360 as the multiplayer machine, I find it severely lacking and not just becuase you have to pay for online.  All the games are small limited affairs for some reason.  The biggest games tend to be around 8v8.  There are no huge games like Warhawk with teams of 20 people, huge firefights and all the rest.  I mean I had larger groups when I played Doom 2 on a bunch of macs linked together in my dads basement during the 90s then Gears of War manages.

Resistance was much better from the middle through the end then at the begining, if you say it sucks but haven't played past the cannery stage, you're missing what made the game awesome further along when all the cool weapons and huge firefights kick in.

Resistance was better than Halo 3 eh? Halo 3's storyline may have been a let down but the multiplayer is still going strong. There are more levels coming soon. People want to complain about the game and yet they are glued to it like crack addicts when they go on Xbox Live. Mark my words Resistance 2 will take a back seat to KZ2.

Just because alot of people play it online does not make it good. I agree %100 that Resistance was better than Halo 3...eventhough I did not even like Resistance much. Halo was just full of dissapointments. This, my friend, is not one of the crack addicts you were talking about lol.

Really??? You do realize how that comment sounds right?

The game has been out for almost a year, its had to compete against a slew of FPS from The Orange Box to Unreal 3 to CoD 4 and its hit #1 or #2 every week on Live.

I thought it was v close with Gears shading it with textures and the moving platform battle was incredible.

However note the use of the word "shading" ie its so close as to be nearly impossible to call.

Most people off the street would think it was the same game.

I had a huge post written up last night, but this is getting beyond pointless, so I refrained from posting it.

Gebx, although I see your point to a degree, you still disappoint me.

Kill tracking isn't remotely near what I was talking to. Have you ever played Resistance online? Have you ever seen the online statistics for Resistance? It doesn't sound like you have, because the stat tracking system of Halo 3, like CoD4, PALES in comparison. This isn't an opinion, it's a fact. There is no other game with as detailed information of online statistics at the current time than Resistance: Fall of Man. Period..this shouldn't even be argued about..if you argue it, you're being a fanboy. Sorry, it's true.

Being able to curb-stomp your oponent is nice, but only 4v4? That'll be fun for the first few days, but I play online multiplayer with 8 or 9 people. That's going to be boring for me and all of my friends when we have to neglect to play with a few just because the game is too small in scale. But like you said - both games aren't going to appeal to the same people all the time.

I'll reiterate my opinion one more time that the reason Halo 3 is so popular is because it's a 'newer version' of Halo 2. The game is very similar..and did Halo 2 not have some of the highest ratings pre-Halo 3? No one wants to play an old version of the same game, and the old version was extremely popular. It shouldn't be surprising that the new one is just as popular.

My argument against Halo 3 is that the difference between it an Halo 2 is so small that it's not even worth it. And almost every friend that I played Halo 2 hardcore with no longer plays Halo 3 because most of them agree. Good thing for Bungie, though, that a lot of other people don't get tired of playing the same thing with new maps. For me - I do.

I also like sniping from 50 feet away or using an Auger to kill people who like to hide behind walls or using a splicer to cut someones heart out. You prefer chainsawing and curb-stomping. To each his own.

Guys, I've invented a stupid game and I'd like you people to join in the fun.

I've called it "comparing HD graphics on crappy quality flash videos" and I think it'll be a lot of fun!

Wow another thread by PS3 fanboys trying to play up Resistance 2 after Resistance 1 got spanked hard by Gears of War 1.

It's funny how some PS3 fanboys are trying to play up FPS games. I remember when the Xbox got bashed badly for that and now it seems like PS3 fanboys must have secretly loved and envied the 'box.

Now that Sony has copied so much from the Xbox 360 (Xbox Live, FPS, etc) I now wish to congratulate PS3 owners on basically buying an Xbox 360.  Thanks for jumping in and welcome to the Xbox universe.  :)

Yes microsoft has not copied anything from ps3 (or wii for that matter). Lips (singstar), Scene it (buzz), avatar (home, mii's) . Oh if making an fps or playing online is stealing from 360, then 360 must have stole it from the PC, because the pc games had that way before the 360. Jeez you are such a fanboy.

Is that a budget title or full price game?

Also, can we have 3 way and greater comparisons to really up the fun factor - imagine the fight with a Gears, Resistance, Killzone 2, Fable 2, GT5 bake off?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

ahah, please stop contradicting yourself... although you are right, I've never checked online to see the stats, just saw what you describe and thought it resembled Halo's system.

Edit - If Sienar's response is accurate and that webpage he showed was what you're talking about then you're a dumb ass... That pales in comparisson to whats available to Halo users...

-Resistance looks too much like a cookie cutter shooter. Gears lived up to its creators name. For some odd reason the Resistance games have always struck me as just average even after playing the first and looking at the build of the second game. It was Epic just watching all of that mayhem and glory in Gears (Straight out of a Sci-Fi movie). I've gotten bored with the same old stuff and I like moving onto something new. It's like how I moved on from Quake to Unreal.

-The locusts look far better than those things you call aliens in Resistance 2. First of all if you're going to have Aliens, aren't they supposed to be more intelligent? They are like Zombies on crack in those videos. Even the lower ranked ones.

-You can relate better to the protagonist in Gears.

-In Resistance you can clearly see that they stole the revolver from Gears 1. That Hammer of Dawn in the multiplayer was f'n beautiful. I cannot wait to clash with people in that game.

You can't really compare a FPS with a TPS.

KZ2 will own Resistance (In the FPS war this year), even though I doubt they compare at all to the shooters on the 360.

I am totally agree
