Forums - PC Discussion - i am building a pc....

i am going to build a pc. a gaming pc that is.

i want it to run fast no hiccups, not necessarily at max settings (on new games) but fairly close. i do not want to spend over $1000. i like intel, i like nvidia, so im probably going to buy their products from newegg most likely. so any suggestions?

also i truely do not trust myself in building this once i get all the necessary parts. anywhere i can go to have it put together for me? (and no. i do not have friends who know anything about computers)

edit: i am somewhat computer literate but if you can explain stuff in simple english :]

edit2: overclocking...is it useful enough for me to figure out how to do? of course id get necessary fans and what not to keep it cool. but again should i bother to learn to do this, or can i force someone else to do it? :]

Hey dude some questions.

Do you have box to work off already?

Are there any design decisions such as noise/a specific look/size that are important to you?

amount you want to spend? (Not the maximum)

Do you play strategy games/do any heavy work on PC?

Btw you could call some local independant computer shops, they will likely do it for you as a labor charge.

i do not have box, was planning on buying everything.

id like it to be quiet, but when im playing games i dont really hear noises other than the game cuz im in the zone, look/size....id like it to have spiffy lights maybe but size i dont care.

willing to spend anywhere from $1 to $1000 lol.

i do play strategy games. i like to multi task too. like ill be running quite a few programs at a time (mostly music internet limewire photoshop this 3d program i have, etc) unless im gaming then only the game and music.

and yes ill have to look at my phonebook to see if i can find any local people

Ok, go out or go online and buy yourself the I think June issue of PC Gamer, the special editin one, the only thing they talk in it are what's out on the market right now and explaining a lot rather well. My friend got it and even built one himself, damn PC Gamer, taking money from me (I wass gonna build it for the charge of $50, $75 if I also had to buy the materials) !!

Tell me if you like the box in the link I showed you. Thats a good place to start because its darn cheap and its an excellent quality/quiet combination for a very cheap price.

The CPU isn't Intel but its quick enough for most tasks and its practically free...

i do like the box, and the cpu looks fine although i do not know all that much about amd. and it looks like a good deal.

Both Intel and AMD (and AMD and Nvidia) are reputable companies with good reputations. Base your decision entirely on price vs. performance.

I usually trust techreport.com with base builds. See http://techreport.com/articles.x/15381 for a good start. The "Grand Experiment" comes out to just over $1000 (you can strip the sound card to bring it under $1000). The CPU and GPU in that are top in their price range and also great value. AMD doesn't even sell any CPus at that price, and Nvidia can't compete with AMD's latest series.

The last 2 the GTX 260/HD 4870 are about the same price except the 4870 is a bit faster and can output sound so you can use it with your TV as well.

all 3 look good. the first one looks big but fine, 2nd one looks to be the best tech wise, and the 3rd one was getting heat complaints. so i might lean more towards the 1st or 2nd card
