Forums - Nintendo - Wii and DS games having the worst storylines?

Most people on this site always ignore the fact that the Wii (and especially the DS) got and will get plenty of point & click adventures. This narrative genre has found a 2nd home on Nintendo systems (at least this gen).

This is a great point, but so far there hasn't been any adventure game with a good story on Wii. But no doubt they will come, Sam & Max being one of the first.

RE4, RE:UC, Fire Emblem DS and Wii, Star Wars TFU, Okami, Super Paper Mario, Zelda:TP, Zelda: PH, ToS:DotNW, DQ IV/V/VI/IX, FF III/IV/Tactics Advance 2/XII Revenant Wings/CC Rings of Fate, Metroid Prime 3, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Castlevania DS, Sonic Chronicles, Chronno Trigger DS, Trauma Center DS and Wii, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, NMH, Opoona, The Godfather, Scarface, Valkyre Profile DS, Disgaea DS, Blue Dragon Plus, ASH, Soma Bringer, Etrian Odissey, etc. etc. etc. etc.

You obviously haven't watched many movies or read any books if you consider most of those games to have great or even passable storylines...

I could say the same thing to you, for the fact that you consider the MGS series to have great stories.

This is the truth. Video game story lines are in general pretty bad due to the medium being so young. 90% of books and movies have shit story lines and writing as well.

WTF are you talking about DTG? Tell me which game has a better storyline than an actual book? Not even movies can go over books. Those games have passable storylines. Tell me why you think those games don't have decent storylines.

What kind of story do you expect? I'm sure you will MGS as an example and you are the only one. By your logic no games can have a decent storyline. Again tell me why do you consider those games' stories terrible.

Oh I know, it's because half of MGS4 is cutscenes, it's more like a movie than an actual game. I buy games to play them. Even Starcraft has a better storyline than MGS4 and has a replay value that is infinitely bigger.

I stopped reading this when you said that 90% of books have bad story and writing.  The real reason why many video game stories are bad is because the writers are terrible.  I could write a better story than some of these game writers.

Okay then, the topic title should be 'PS3, 360, PSP, N-Gage, Computer, GBA, Wii and DS games having the worst storylines?'

But that one isn't as inflammatory so ti will get less responses. There is a term for it that I am forgetting. What is it when you create a topic designed to elicit nothing but angry responses from fanboys? I know it starts with a t but I can't recall the whole word right now. Ah well maybe it will come to me later.

That was the end of my post so it was a good place to stop reading. Go to your local book store and check out the "Romance" section. Go to your local video store or just check Netflix under the "Action" section. Video game writing is terrible, but so is most writing. It takes time for the cream to rise to the top.

I think MGS4's story line is better than any book....(runs away)

Actions movies aren't to be watched for story.  Do you think Transformers was a huge box office success because of its "amazing story"?  No

Also, romance novels are for the most part, pure fluff so I kind of agree with you there but there are books in other genres that have good stories.
