Forums - Sales - how does the psp sell?

Sony fans are the most hardcore of them all and will buy anything Playstation item regardless of what's on it.

Playstation had a strong brand name going into it, but since then that brand power has dwindled.

PSP is very easy to pirate / homebrew, this is why for the most part PSP software sales are absolutely pathetic (except in Japan).

PSP has other functions other than games.

well, some people might buy for non gaming

I like how some responses claim it only sells because Sony fans are 'hardcore'

Thats utter crap. It sells because the games it does have are mostly excellent, and because handhelds sell

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Is this guy ESL or just a bad typer?

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. - PSP sells because of sony fanboys
- PSP sells because of god of war and metal gear fans
- PSP sells because Sony hyped the machine up as the portable of the future
- PSP sells because lots of casual gamers assosiate it with ps2

- Uhhu..... most SONY fanboys would have the handheld within 2 Years. Explain it's current sales???
- Yep. They have a network where they all talk about when They should each buy one so sales could stay at a constant 55-70K a week.....
- Didn't work with the PS3. And if it didn't live up to the hype don't you think sales would have died down a bit after like... 6 months??
- Uhhhh...... so casuals buy it because of the ps2??? Although the 2 units have very little connectivity??? I think a casual would be more likely to buy a 130$ console than a 170+ dollar handheld.....

OT: PSP sells due to many things.

Brand recongition.
Decent library although it's been growing slowly.
Easy to Pirate games.
And and PS3 connectivity might raise an interest in a ps3 owner to buy one. [It has for me]
It does much more than just play games.

And probably quite a few decent other reasons that I just can't think of.
