Domination doesn't neccaserily mean profitability , Sony could have saved themselves $3-7 Billion by not releasing the PS3.

I think there is still a long way to go this gen.

Games are still improving as devs find new ways to exploit them.

Can anyone really afford to sit it out? Nintendo could have possibly sat out the 16-bit era and simply kept pushing the Nes (like they almost did). The end result would have been a loss of market share, name recognition, and profit. Not to mention the experience and innovations of working with cutting edge technology.

Any company that takes a generation off is pretty much comitting suicide!

Nintendo can't because their hardware as good as it is now will not be tolerated by devs or consumers in 2016.

MS needs to make a new console because of the RRoD stigma.

Sony could make their system as a gaming standard which lasts for 10 years (not 6 then new console) which is something that could attract people who hate to change consoles, then make PS4 a fairly expensive machine too and make the same 10 year promise (advertise it as the buy it forever machine).
Plus it's still gonna be blu-ray player even when they quit making games for it (and a cheap one at that in 5 years), heck people will still be using PS2s they get from yard sales for DVD players for years to come.

As much as I am a fan towards one console (360) part of the fun and excitement of having a console is the competitiveness. Without the consoles competing and going all out then the company doesn't have to put out as much, cut prices as much, and basically bend over backwards as much.

I enjoy the console wars. Because in the end the consumer wins. Unless of course you bought a Dreamcast. Sorry guys.

I meant that the Wii (with PS2 graphics) won't be selling in 2016.
