This thread... yikes. Seriously, guys. Nintendo is churning out these consoles as fast as they possibly can. Are you honestly surprised that a system that is flying off the shelves during the SUMMER is going to have problems meeting demand at Christmastime?
Some of the responses here are disheartening. As a video gamer in general.
grandmaster: If you don't get up early Sunday morning to get one, you won't. There is an "excuse" for not having stock, it's called "selling out every week within hours". It's a popular product, it's pretty significantly difficult to avoid.
PS3owner: ...My god, how much horseshit can you possibly spew out in one thread? "Limiting the supplies"? Seriously, what are you expecting here? "By the time Wii is in stores, no one is going to buy it"? Well gee, it's been 8 months, and consumers have yet to be discouraged en masse by the "shortages". Sure, Sony did alright with production of the PS2. The PS2 also wasn't selling out for the first 8 consecutive months without pause. The Wii, a so-called "7-year old system", is currently kicking the tar out of your precious glorified Blu-Ray player, so I don't really see how Nintendo is performing poorly here.
EDIT: In fact, after checking the sales numbers, the Wii is selling almost three times as fast now as the PS2 was in the same amount of time. Funny that.
One thing in particular I don't like is when people pull out the "Wii can't compete with the PS3 or 360 :D" card, for two reasons. First, it's not aiming to directly compete anyway, they've made this clear. Second, even given that, it's pretty well violating the PS3 in a back alley right now, and it's catching up to the 360 FAST. As in, within a month fast. You don't need top-end graphics or a fancy multimedia console to sell well and be enjoyable. The Wii is going to be in front before the end of August, and will hold onto that lead. Christmastime I wouldn't be shocked if the 360 took it back a while, due to the availability of the console. This is not a two-man race.
I'm sure you feel very cool right now bashing the Brain Age line of games, but hey, it's selling ridiculously well, almost absurdly well even. Shockingly enough, not everyone who picks up a video game is a hardcore gamer who's been playing forever. Some people just want a smaller, simpler game. Wii Fit will mirror this, I wouldn't be surprised if it sells amazingly.
Virtual Console games run from $5 to $20 based on console (NES, Genesis, Turbografx16, SNES, N64). They are stored on the Wii's onboard HD.
I honestly can't believe I'm responding to this crap, but seriously, get your head out of your ass. The PS3 is sucking it hard, and the Wii is selling, whether you like it or not, no matter what pitiful excuses you may have for why the PS3 isn't selling as well.
Christ.
Also, JDWolf, the PS2 didn't hit 18 million until about two years in.
