Forums - Microsoft - Infinite Undiscovery 70K first day sales

@mrstickball: By taking a quick glance at your year's end predictions, I can expect you to be wrong... 2 years in a row predicting terrible sales for Sony and Nintendo products and being extremely and impossibly generous with MS.

Did you notice that I made those predictions almost a year ago? I'd love to see a post for your predictions from last year. If I could of re-done my predictions in Feburary, I would have bumped up the Wii and PS3, and I will gladly admit it. However, I stick to keeping them in the sig to show that I was wrong.

Lets look at the master thread for predictions:

A few notable users, and their predictions in December 2007, after I had already made my predictions:

User PS3 PSP DS Wii X360
Benga Benga 17m 40m 23m
RolStoppable 18m 38m 95m 45m 24m
AvinashTyagi 17m 46m 23m
Garcian Smith 17m 40m 22m
Gamerace 18m 45m 24m
Astrodust 19m 53m 26m
carlos710 21m 50m 25m
Crazzyman 24m 32.5m-37.5m 23.5m
Soriku 21m 42m 20m
Mummelman 22m 38m 83m 35m 24m
Spetrumglr 22m 41m 28m
FinalEvangelion 19m 35m 25m
Rath 18m 100m 42m 22m
WiiStation360 21.2m 44.2m 25.8m
Machina-AX 18m 38m 22m
HappySquirrel 17m 40m 85m 40m 25m

Now, I must ask you: Where, and how are my numbers vastly different than the majority of numbers given? 17m PS3's by the end of 2008 was the most popular prediction, my X360 numbers were higher than most (but not the highest), and I was generally low on the Wii vs. everyone else, and I admit I screwed up on that, and realized it shoulda been 3m higher after 2 weeks of putting it in my sig.

That is a crap start TBH. 70k for a realativly high profile game, very poor. I at least expected it to sell 250k, especially as 360 fanboys go on about how their console has captured a key bit of the RPG market. Yeah, right.

With Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Last Remnant and Star Ocean IV...I have to imagine the 360 is beginning to look tempting to the Japanese gamer.

So now 70k is good? It's about 100-120k during the first week. For a SE RPG, it's rather low even if it's on 360...

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Godot - unsure if you saw my reply in the comment box for Y-Koron's post..

Godot - It's good because it's a smaller, new IP from Tri-Ace.

The closest game I think you could compare IU to would be Radiata Stories. It sold (VGC) around 180,000 first week, and got up to 280,000 before it died.

IU has a decent shot at hitting above 150k, which wouldn't be too bad compared to RS. Not great, but not a disaster.

So I really don't see how it's too bad. IU will open with around 90,000-95,000 which will be half of RS, but should have better legs down the stretch. It should wind up with 150,000-175,000 depending on legs, but I don't think that's horrible for a new IP from Tri Ace x SE.

Of course it's low, it's considered a bomb even for a DS game for SE.
But I'm part of those surprised at these numbers, I didn't think they would be so high. I thought it would rather be 70k for the week.
But then again, I didn't count Tri-Ace fans, but I don't think there are many of them.
To me, it means the number of hardcore dedicated fans on XB360 is growing, to at least 70k.
Not enough to sustain the cost of these games though, I think.
The other Tri-Ace game on XB360 was Trusty Bell IIRC, which was amazingly front-loaded and sold most of its life-time sales the first day.
Will this be the same? I don't know: it's published by SE which still has some brand name left.

Eternal Sonata/Trusty Bell was Tri-Crescendo, not Tri-Ace.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

As I said in the news post, this is very good, and well above what I expected.

One thing of note: By talking to VGC staff that have "insider info" on pre-order numbers, they constantly stated that IU wasn't heavily pre-ordered, and expected 35-40k pre orders to be sold first day.

So we have 2 options as to why IU sold so well:

1) VGC staff was wrong
2) Massive walk-up orders

If it's #2, I would expect IU to move a bit of consoles. I think that 20,000 consoles may be do-able this week. Depending on what the Wii does, it may make my prediction come true. The PS3 looks to be toast this week in Japan.

VGC staff has been wrong must of the times on preorder numbers.

It HAS captured a key bit of the RPG maker because unlike your ps3, the 360 actually has a RPG library.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

70K for a S-E RPG doesn't seem that impressive. I was expecting this to doubles the sales of ToV.
