Forums - Sony - Interview of Howard Stringe (CEO of SONY)

Some interesting input from the big chief at Sony (starts speaking about the Playstation at the middle of the article) :

http://www.welt.de/english-news/article2358382/Future-of-Sony-Ericsson-uncertain.html

"Have you every played with the Nintendo Wii, your rival's game console?"

Stringer: Yes, I have.

More seriously:

- No price cut for the PS3

- Still losing money on the console (unlike the Wii) but catching up by selling games

- Blue Ray remains the key differentiator vs Internet distribution

"Another five to ten years will pass before people are downloading significant numbers of high-resolution films from the web. At the moment the quality doesn't even come close to that of a Blu-ray player."

... is Microsoft too optimistic with the full Web approach ?

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

I think a lot of people have played the wii:/

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

Quality of blu-ray needs to be matched by accessibility to even get to the point they want. You don't need an HDTV to watch stuff on youtube.

As for the PS3 specifically, I hope it starts becoming profitable by itself soon.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It won't, because as soon as it gets CLOSE to becoming profitable, they'll introduce a price drop.  They don't plan to make money on the PS3 as a console any time soon..they just want to cut their losses a little bit, so lower losses = time for a price cut.  It may be another year, maybe 2 before they actually begin making money off the console itself - but then again, this is all just my assumption.

Dream some more Sony..........
anyway PS3 is doomed
