Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Upcoming Wii Games (NA)

I'm a Zelda Junkie. Need a new Zelda :D. Coming back to reality I really am anxious about Umbrella Chronicles and FF CC: CB. SSB : Brawl? Meh. I definitely have to check out Call of Duty 4. Might be the kind of fps i was looking for. And for Pete's sake, they just have to port "The Witcher" to the xbox360. That game is a natural system seller. It's what fable was supposed to be from the start nut better in terms of gameplay and graphics.

Wow, I can't believe you guys are missing out on High-School Musical 2!

Come on, didn't you guys watch how excited Regie was to promote that one at E3?!

XD

On a serious note, I'm going to have to really think about spending all my money for a PS3 on software for the Wii this fall. Then again, luckily I'll have some money from school coming in, so I might be able to splurge some more on "R&R."

Mario Strikers Charged:

http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=6976

KEY INFORMATION

  • The captains from Super Mario® Strikers are back, joined by four new ones, and now players can create their own original teams by mixing and matching their captain with a new cast of sidekicks. All characters have their own sets of special abilities, making each one play completely differently from the others. New captain super-abilities and sidekick skill-shots add a new level of depth to already crazy soccer battles on the most unpredictable and hazard-filled pitches in the Mario™ universe. Each field features its own set of interactive hazards that alter game play during the course of the game.

  • There are tons of new single-player modes, from tournaments to challenges to tutorials, but the game truly shines in multiplayer. The game features a robust multiplayer mode: Up to four players can battle locally, or they can go on Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection (by themselves or with a friend) to compete with friends and rivals.

  • Building on the frantic fun of Super Mario Strikers, this game gets players into action only possible on Wii. Primary game-play controls use both the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers. Players use the Nunchuk to control their characters and deploy items. Flick the Wii Remote to perform the defensive “Big Hit” move and flatten foes. To defend against a “Mega Strike” goal attempt, use the Wii Remote to point at the screen and manually defend against multiple balls as they rocket toward the screen.

Game storyline: Characters from the Mario universe clash in a sensational battle-sport based on the original Nintendo GameCube™ title, Super Mario Strikers. In the Road to the Striker Cup mode, players take their favorite captain and compete through a set of tournaments. Players must first battle their way through the Fire Cup and the Crystal Cup, eventually reaching their goal of competing for the Striker Cup. The competition is fierce, and the difficulty grows as they battle their way through the tournament ladders on their way to the Striker Cup.

How to progress through the game: There is tons of fun to be had just playing a single match in single-player or multiplayer modes, but players also can settle into tournament play in the Road to the Striker Cup. Or they can try to finish 12 of the toughest game situations in Striker Challenges. Beating either of these modes will unlock new stadiums, new captains and player cards useful for game cheats.

Characters: Mario Strikers Charged welcomes eight new characters to the field of play, including four captains (Bowser and three secret captains) and four sidekicks (Dry Bones, Boo, Monty Mole and Shy Guy). Back from the first Strikers are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario™, Donkey Kong®, Waluigi, Yoshi™, Daisy, Koopa, Toad, Birdo and the Hammer Bros.

Stadiums: Mario Strikers Charged features 17 total stadiums. Nine of them are new, each with its own terrain and set of perils that affect the game play. New stadiums include the Sand Tomb, Thunder Island, the Vice, the Lava Pit, Galactic Stadium, the Wastelands, Crystal Canyon, Stormship Stadium, the Dump and Classroom. Also included are the classic stadiums updated from Super Mario Strikers.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Mario Strikers Charged is all about maximizing the abilities of the different characters, as each character has a unique set of abilities and skills, not to mention super-abilities like Donkey Kong's Thunder Wham or Bowser's Fire Storm. Charging a ball provides a more powerful shot for both the captain and sidekick characters. A fully charged captain shot will result in a devastating Mega Strike goal shot. A successful Mega Strike can split into six different balls, all of which must be blocked by the defensive players by using the Wii Remote to point at the screen. Practice passing and charging the ball to increase the chance of scoring. The player can charge the ball by completing a series of successful passes and avoiding steals, or by holding the B button to charge the ball quickly. The interactive stadiums, each with its own pitfalls, make each game an exercise in chaos.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Play: Players climb the rankings boards as they compete on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection specific to the region they are playing in. They earn ranking points by scoring goals, posting game wins and even just competing. Players can earn up to 20 points total: 10 points for a win, 1 point for a loss and 1 point per goal, to a maximum of 10 points. With a positive structured rankings system, players are rewarded for playing games in their entirety, creating better online experiences for all participants. The ultimate reward is watching a player's rank climb the leader board. Players are matched up with opponents of similar skill levels through a rankings-based matchmaking system. The player who has earned the most points for that day will be rewarded the title of Striker of the Day, and rankings reset to zero each week to restart the competition and see who rises to the top. To keep the ranking system honest, players earn points only when competing in ranked games, not when playing against friends.

Community: Mario Strikers Charged will offer a strong sense of Wii community, as players will be able to create Mario Strikers Charged profiles using Mii™ characters for their online identity and create a Friend Roster to manage their social community. Using their Mii profiles, players can track their progress on the ranking leader board and their performance against their friends specifically. The goal is to build a community that is accessible and friendly to new players, yet also rewarding for more advanced players.

Metroid Prime 3:

http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=6969

KEY INFORMATION
Truly feel what it is to be the bounty hunter behind the visor.

  • Players become Samus with the Wii controls. By moving around with the Nunchuk™ and aiming Samus' gun with the Wii Remote™, players do more than look through the eyes of Samus – they experience a quantum leap in first-person control. Fire on the run, grapple enemies and yank off their shields or manipulate machinery with movements of the Nunchuk and Wii Remote – it all adds up to a level of immersion only possible on Wii, and the best first-person controls on any platform, period.

  • Corruption is everywhere... Dark Samus, Samus' longtime nemesis, is corrupting entire planets by launching enormous seeds called Leviathans into them. Samus must travel to multiple planets – each with unique alien landscapes and dangers –to prevent the planets from being completely corrupted, all the while fighting the spreading Phazon that threatens to take over her body completely. As it corrupts her, it also grants her incredible powers.

  • Enter Hypermode! Samus employs a never-before-used device called a Phazon Enhancement Device (PED) that harnesses the Phazon within her and puts her into a state called Hypermode. In Hypermode, Samus can destroy Phazon impediments and annihilate enemies with superpowered weapons ... but it drains her health to use it. If she doesn't empty her Phazon meter within a certain time frame she risks utter corruption under the control of Dark Samus. Players need to carefully balance their need for ultimate power with the inherent danger of corruption.

Game storyline: The trilogy ends ... with a bang! Six months have passed since the events on the planet Aether. The Galactic Federation's network computers, Aurora Units, are suddenly and completely corrupted with something like a virus, and only quick action saves the entire network from going down. The Federation believes Space Pirates may be behind the problem and, beginning with Samus, starts to contact bounty hunters. As it explains the situation to the assembled hunters, the Federation is attacked by the pirates. Samus and the other hunters leap to the defense of the Federation capital, only to find that the enemy the hunters face is the presumed-dead Dark Samus. Dark Samus defeats Samus and the other bounty hunters, corrupting them with Phazon in the process. They are all subsequently outfitted by the Galactic Federation with Phazon Enhancement Devices (PEDs) that can harness their corruption to enhance their powers. After learning to use this enhancement, called Hypermode, Samus sets off after Dark Samus, who has begun to seed other planets with Phazon by launching enormous Phazon seeds called Leviathans into them. As the Phazon begins to slowly corrupt Samus, the final saga in the Metroid Prime trilogy begins.

How to progress through the game: The war initiated by Dark Samus and the Space Pirates ranges across many planets as Dark Samus attempts to corrupt each with Phazon seeds. Use the Hypermode system and Samus' weapons – like the Power Beam, Morph Ball and Scan Visor – to explore alien landscapes, hunt for weapons and information, and destroy the seeds, all the while balancing Samus' Phazon corruption with the powers granted to her by the PED suit. Saving the planets from corruption isn't enough, though. Eventually, players must take down Samus' mortal enemy, Dark Samus, as well.

Characters: Samus, Dark Samus, the Galactic Federation, new bounty hunters Ghor, Rundas and Gandrayda.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Besides using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to pull off amazing feats like aiming and blasting in midair or at a full run, players also have an array of different weapons at their disposal. In true Metroid fashion, these become powered up as the game progresses. Multiple sensitivity settings for aiming ensure that the game controls like a dream for both novice players and veteran first-person shooter enthusiasts. Not only that, but the controller is used for a number of other game elements beyond the traditional first-person shooter standards, like physically interacting with machinery (by pushing, twisting and pulling the Wii Remote) and latching onto things with Samus' grapple beam (by casting forward and then yanking back the Nunchuk). Players can also access their different visors via a quick-select system: They simply hold down the Minus button and point at their selection.

Advanced Aiming: Advanced players will find the Lock-on Free Aiming system is unparalleled. Players can lock the camera on enemies with the Nunchuk's Z button, yet still have complete control of where they aim with the Wii Remote. The result is perfect first-person control.

Endless Ocean (Forever Blue) screens:

This from now until holidays is going to be fing amazing.

BTW I'm finally on the final boss in MP2!!!!

So 8 first party and 28 notable third party games by the end of 2007 = 36.

Today Nintendo promised 100 new Wii games in the US by the end of 2007 (on top of the current 60 games, although Metacritic lists 69 Wii games that are out right now), so that leaves 64 more games.

Are they really going to be able to release 100 new Wii games in the next 5 1/2 months?

That's roughly one new game every 1.65 days.

MS releases tons of games, yet there have only been 213 games released in the US on the 360 in 20 months (again based on Metacritic), and that includes every Live Arcade game.  That's one new game every 2.85 days.

What do people think of this promise, is the goal of 100 new Wii games attainable?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

There will be lots of crap anime and movie-license and PS2 port games to fill it out, don't you worry. :p
