exactly, no one is forcing you to keep all of that data on your hdd.  Beaten a game and bored of it? Just delete the install data off your ps3, your save data will still be there (because its saved in a different place). Then you'll have more space for the next game you want to play, and if you decide you want to play the first game again a few months later just reinstall it to your hdd.

Really people its as simple as that, you only need enough room on your hard drive for the  2-3 games your currently playing.

It is a problem for hardcore gamers with 20gb/40gb/60gb consoles.

80gb machines should last a little longer.

You have to remember though that the solution is either deleting data or buying a new HDD and the majority of users will not be affected. I mean how many people are going to fill up their HDD without learning how to delete data off it ?

well since sony has an 80gb sku out now,a 160gb sku coming out shortly,plus the option to upgrade if you please(i have a 40 gb with around 22gb left after owning 10 games) id say,NO THEY ARENT A PROBLEM IN THE LEAST.

I consider myself a strong 360 supporter. I dont own a PS3 but have several friends who do, and have seen it in action multiple times. It is a great machine. I prefer my Elite, but hey, that's me. Honestly, installs on the PS3 to me are not a big deal. As previously stated, installs are the norm with PC. Patience is a virtue, so....that being said, who cares. When you beat a game you can delete the install, no biggie...again.

I am excited about the (optional) full installs for my Elite because I DO have the space. Games like LO, and we all know (FFXIII) will/have multiple disks. Not having to switch, faster loads, less power consumption, no disk scratching, ect. seem like all positives. I think the PS3 will incorporate this soon too, and it is a welcome sight.

I dont like that the devs are forcing it on PS3 users just because they can. If MS didnt have the Arcade, I think many devs would force it on the 360 as well. But MS has stated from the beginning that any loads will be (optional), as to not alienate the Arcade owners who just want to play the games.

The anwser to all 3 is no. Xbox Not Manditory, PC's come with minimum of 160+gigs. And no example: Uncharted,

It becomes a problem when it's all shoot at you at the same time, especially when you first get a PS3 (you try demos for example, and then try your other games that have mandatory installs... It gets annoying after a while). Once you get your PS3 all set-up after a few days, it's barely a few minutes you'll waste for these new games.

I have to say though, why would you need a mandatory install for Bioshock? The loadings only take like 15 seconds in the first place, and they don't occur often at all!

Still, as long as the PS3 continues to get bundled with a HDD, it won't be a problem, as the normal ''casual'' consumers might not even care about demos and videos at all.

The 360 version could deffinantly outsell the ps3 version without japan, its not like they'll buy enough copies of ff13 to matter or anything /sarcasm

on topic-what do you do when you run out of room on your computers hard drive? Do you post angry topics on the internet about how dell should require all videos and photos be stored on some random server on the internet so they arn't filling your hard drive up?

PC gamers have been living with installs for years, and I have never seen any angry forum topics from them ranting about how big of an inconvience it is...
