Forums - Gaming Discussion - "Sony risks falling out of console battle"

Lord N said: When it comes to variety, Sony easily has more first and second party titles than either Nintendo or Microsoft.
Are you serious. Nintendo 1st / 2nd party titles are the most anticipated titles in the industry. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, alone account for more sales than all of the titles from PS you just listed. Then you have pokemon and so many others it hurts my hands to try and type them all out. Both of the last two gen Nintendo machines were carried solely due to thier 1/2nd party ip's. There is noway MS or Sony could do that. Some argue that Nintendo's great 1/2nd party lineupe is actually a henderence because 3rd parties have a hard time competing on a Nintendo platform, whereas Sony's and MS's stuff is usually less stellar. If Nintendo every dropped out of the hardware business whomever is left would be paying them HUGE royalties for these ip's. Think about it. EA is the largest selling game publisher worldwide (barely), right. How many different platforms do they put thier ish on. like 10+? Nintendo is the 2nd largest and they only have 3 (GB,DS,Wii) platforms to sell on. Good god man.

Random Sony games? Do you even have a point here? Nintendo has Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Zelda, , F-Zero, Metroid Prime, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Mario Strikers, so, yeah, some platformers, an action-adventure game, a first-person shooter/adventurer, and some quirky titles. Microsoft has Halo, Perfect Dark, Banjo & Kazooie, Kameo, Viva Pinata, and a few other games that nobody cares about. No counterparts here, really.
OMG, you listed random Sony games without any mention of their Wii and 360 counterparts. And Soul Calibur is now almost a Sony second party title, despite being multiplatform! I've been proven wrong!
Last time I checked, SCIII is a PS2 exclusive, and future SC titles will probably be the same since Sony builds Namco's arcade hardware.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

Yeah, 360 doesn't have Forza or PGR And it certainly doesn't have Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey Gears Of War certainly isn't a 3rd Person Shooter published by Microsoft, just like Crackdowns not being published by them either But I guess nobody cares about those, since they can't match the power of Cell so they arn't true counterparts....

Variety is pretty meaningless unless it directly translates to sales ...

(Second party titles are titles that are produced with an exclusive publishing contract with a console manufacturer) Final Fantasy XI was on the XBox 360, Final Fantasy Christal Chronicals is on the Wii/Gamecube/DS, Final Fantasy titles are being rapidly ported (and upgraded) for the DS because it is crushing the PSP so I'm not so sure you can count it as a second party title; there is nothing saying that Final Fantasy XIII will be exclusive for the PS3 or that it will even be released for the PS3 if it continues to sell poorly. Soul Calibur was released on the Dreamcast, Soul Calibur 2 was released for the PS2, Gamecube and XBox and sold the best on the Gamecube, and Soul Calibur 3 dramatically underperformed on the PS2. As the early demos of Final Fantasy for the N64 should have shown everyone, don't count on a game being released for a system until it is in your hands.

Hilarious! Didn't that same website write down the Wii just the other day? :)

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

Can anyone say real reason why ps3 could fall out of console battle? People don`t buy ps3 for 600-800$ ? PS3 selling worse than xbox360 in japan ? People in europe do not preorder ps3 ? Motorstorm, VF5, Lair, F1, HS, DMC4, MGS4, NGS, AC4, GTA4, AC, Uncharted, Killzone2, WK, GT5, FFXIII, T6, SH5, RE5, ICO next, SC4 - these games are canceled or what ? Or any of you would not pay any money in order to play a little into these games ?

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Is there even contest? Nintendo is perhaps the best and greatest developer/publisher(quality of titles and volume) there is in videogame history. That's no hyperbole and exaggeration on my part either.
