You had, and in this post continued to, change two key elements of what I was saying.

As there are a few other people (chenguo, DMeisterJ) in this thread who took issue with what I was NOT saying rather than what I WAS saying they can consider this post my response to their comments as well.

First of all, you have posted with regard to "RPG's," but I have only been discussing "JRPG's."

Secondly, I have not once said that the PS3 will never sell large quantities of JRPG's.  I have said that it has not proven itself capable of doing so.  The highest selling JRPG on the PS3 sold 110k.  You can argue that this is by default, you can argue that it is due to the Xbox 360's headstart (though the Wii launched at the same time as the PS3 and has a 700k selling JRPG) and you can argue that this is all due to Microsoft moneyhatting publishers.  But at the end of the day this doesn't change the simple fact that you (or me) claiming the PS3 can sell JRPG's in large quantities is an assumption.

It may or may not be a reasonable or logical assumption, I have not once passed judgement on that argument in this thread.  But unless you have access to sales charts I do not, for games that I was not aware existed, you cannot possibly tell me you are not making the assumption that JRPG's can sell well on the PS3.

At least not reasonably......

There doesn't seem to be one jRPG on PS3 yet with data tracked in all territories so with regard to PS3 all you can say is its potential is unproven.

If you'd paid any real attention to what I have been saying then you would realise that the above is literally all I have been saying.  The PS3 has no demonstratable ability to sell JRPG's.

Its funny that you agree with that point, but are all over me instead of correcting the many Sony fans in this thread that emphatically declare that the PS3 can, without a doubt, shift vast numbers of JRPG's.

Funny thing is you seem to forget about Valkyrie of the Battlefield and Disgaea 3 ,both of wich have handily beaten most big budget JRPG games on the 360 with the exception of Blue Dragon. And that Enchanted Arms sold way more on the PS3.Not to mention even low budget games as Tears to Tiara have sold nearly the same as things as Eternal Sonata and Lost Oddysey in Japan.

You are a funny specimen.

Actually I would love to bring Valkyrie and Disgaea into the argument.  For my mind they are established IP that flopped pretty hard.

But everytime I bring them up I get told they are SRPG's and cannot be counted.

Go figure.

The PS3 hasn't released any exclusive JRPG's yet, so how do you even compare the two systems? The 360 is in year 3 of its life cycle and has released several high-profile exclusive JRPGs already. So obviously it's got a better record of selling JRPGs than the PS3, who have yet to release any of their big exclusive JRPGs. It's not exactly rocket science. It's like saying the XBox 720 hasn't shown the ability to sell JRPGs. Well DUH. The system ain't even out yet.

The only possible valid comparison that can be made now is to look at the sales of an RPG that was released for both systems. (ie. Enchanted Arms)

everyone shut it and get back to playing milk race on the zx spectrum:)

Its Valkyria not Valkyrie. Valkyria Chronicles is a new IP and is in no way connected to Valkyrie Profile. It has also sold extremely well for an SRPG. 150K (plus 1K every week) in Japan is more than any traditional JRPG has sold in Japan on the 360, bar Blue Dragon and in a few weeks probably Tales of Vesperia.

Disgaea 3 has sold 110K in Japan. Disgaea 2 sold 150K in Japan. Disgaea 3 is showing better legs though. With a holiday boost it might have lifetime sales close to Disgaea 2. We have no data for previous Disgaea games in NA, so no comparison can be drawn for NA.

Both games certainly did not flop and show that the PS3 can sell SRPG's. You can bring these two games up, as long as you compare them to 360 SRPG's, which would be... Operation Darkness.

@starcraft:

As others have said, Valkyria Chronicles is a new IP, and yes, SRPGs do generally sell very poorly.

Disgaea 3 hasn't been selling too well, but Disgaea has always sold like crap, even on the behemoth that was the ps2.

And I can't wait until Eternal Sonata releases in all territories and outsells the 360 version worldwide pretty quickly. Much like Enchanted Arms was the first JRPG for both systems, Eternal Sonata will be the second, and I believe it will follow the same fate.

Though I suppose it will really be the fourth or so JRPG for the ps3, if you include VC and D3, though it's hitting before VC in NA and EU.

Ya know what, this thread is just a tired (and very stupid) argument that's leading to no where. The OP is a false rumor, as well, so I see no point in this thread staying open. It'll just lead to more fighting.

Though I do believe ToV will come to the ps3 eventually. After all, Namco made similar "mistakes" with Eternal Sonata, if you recall. :P
