Forums - Nintendo - NHL 2k9 wii gets a 6.0 "passable"

I was afraid of this when I didn't see any early reviews. Shame. Still I might get it if user reviews are good and say it's fun.

@Groucho - Tiger Woods and The Bigs both sold best on Wii and it's likely Madden on Wii will outsell the PS3 version this year too.

Does it matter what reviewers says already? Wii owners eat this shit up anyway, since they never seen a hockey game on the Wii before, especially the canadians.

Anyway, its a good thing that Take 2 is experimenting with the Wii already, too bad EA was 10 steps ahead of them.

1) This game will most likely bomb.

2) EA is not 10 steps ahead. There are no plans for NHL 09 on the Wii.

Im talking about 3rd parties for the Wii as a whole, seem EA is making cash cow of the Wii while Take 2 missed the train. And about NHL 2k9 as a bomb?

Top Spin 3

250,000---> Not bad as a debut major game from take 2 except for game party, comparing to The Godfather, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, EA Playground and Boogie.

In due time if Take 2 keep this up they'll have success as EA did with the Wii but like I said, EA is 10 step ahead of them.

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

I would say that Wii owners buying a lotta hockey is not very likely.  To date, no pro-sports franchises have done very well on the Wii, despise its large install base.  Even the PS2 comes close, or does, outsell the Wii version in almost every case.

Madden series says hi

Also, adapting the controls to be Wii-friendly, when coming from a tried-and-true console gamepad perspective on sports games, is... hard. Real hard, except perhaps in the case of baseball, where having two analog sticks isn't really necessary. The gamepad style controller was invented after the mouse/pointing-device... and it *does* have a place in gaming. It never would have survived if it didn't.

Your statement is completely false. PES 08 for the Wii reinvigorated the franchise and was called the best entry in the series for the 08 version. As a result, Konami stated that the Wii will be the lead platform in order to adopt the control ideas for the other platforms. Therefore, it can be done. Developers just need to stop rushing products in order to make a quick buck off of Wii gamers.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

We just might wait if the game will be bombed or not, wii games often driven by legs not by one week blockbuster. Just take a look at Deca Sports and Boom Blox.

Actually, no one should be surprised by this. The 2K hockey series has been slipping for several years with each iteration getting lower scores than the year before.

Last year, the PS2 version had a meta-score of aroudn 67 on Gamerankings, the PS3 version 75. Both were about five points lower than the score from the year before.

Okay, you have a point there. Being the only ice hockey game on the market (because EA failed to bring NHL 09 to the Wii) could make NHL 2k9 a moderate success like Top Spin 3 which is the only tennis simulation on the Wii so far.

@Rol

You don't consider Sega Superstar Tennis to be a great simulation? 8*>

Actually, the engine underlying the gameplay is pretty good -- well worth the $20 it cost me.

He said it was hard, not impossible.

Developers have been making games for thumbsticks for a decade, and they're still coming out with the occaisional inventive way to apply them to gameplay. Clever game designers will think of good ideas for the Wii remote right away and get to work polishing them up over the next couple of years. Not-so-clever game designers will try to map gamepad controls onto wiimote + nunchuk and have tough time ramming that square peg through a round hole.

I'm gonna take a wait and see approach on this one while its full price. I want to hear the consensus first, though I'm sure either way I will pick it up when it hits $20 just to ensure hockey stays on the Wii.

I am sick of the Wii being treated like the shit console though, even the PS2 has online or atleast 2k7 did. I wish Sega still made this stuff.

After reading the comments on IGNs review I'm pretty skeptical about the review. The reviewer said there was no create a player, but apparently there IS that feature (2K even posted in the comments). Makes me wonder how much time went into the review when such an obvious mistake was made. Especially considering IGN claims to only review final versions. I smell a lazy reviewer.
