Also, adapting the controls to be Wii-friendly, when coming from a tried-and-true console gamepad perspective on sports games, is... hard. Real hard, except perhaps in the case of baseball, where having two analog sticks isn't really necessary. The gamepad style controller was invented after the mouse/pointing-device... and it *does* have a place in gaming. It never would have survived if it didn't.

Your statement is completely false. PES 08 for the Wii reinvigorated the franchise and was called the best entry in the series for the 08 version. As a result, Konami stated that the Wii will be the lead platform in order to adopt the control ideas for the other platforms. Therefore, it can be done. Developers just need to stop rushing products in order to make a quick buck off of Wii gamers.

He said it was hard, not impossible.

Developers have been making games for thumbsticks for a decade, and they're still coming out with the occaisional inventive way to apply them to gameplay. Clever game designers will think of good ideas for the Wii remote right away and get to work polishing them up over the next couple of years. Not-so-clever game designers will try to map gamepad controls onto wiimote + nunchuk and have tough time ramming that square peg through a round hole.
