Forums - Microsoft - It's over for the 360 if......

It's too bad that Microsoft isn't in this to just make money, but to stop Sony from taking over the living room, which IMO they are doing a pretty good job.

I honestly think that Microsoft is willing to lose more money than that, especially if you start looking at the operating income of their other departments that depend on Windows.

And that's sad considering Sony and Nintendo care about their customers while M$ is only concerned with beating Sony lol, which explains their hysterical 33% failure rate. They should focus on keeping the consumer happy rather than just trying to go after Sony which in turn they could still lose at. Sure they've put a dent in Sony's market but I'd rather have Sony and Nintendo make THEIR OWN products unlike M$ who just throws money at everyone.

You're kidding right? NO company in the WORLD cares about their customers altruistically. It's all to make profit:

If Sony cared about it's customers it would:

- Buy exclusivity in no matter the cost to bring games to it's customers

- It wouldn't release one of (if not) the most expensive console of all time

- You would have had dual shock built in

- Extend warranty for free beyond 1 year (lifetime warranty perhaps)

- Charge $60 USD for a game, $110 AUD here.

- Backwards Compatibility would be available FOR ALL CONSOLES AND IT WOULD BE FULL COMPATIBILITY

If Nintendo cared about it's customers it would:

- Buy 3rd party support

- Not release so many high price peripherals

- Drop console prices

- Increase console production

- Introduce a solution to the storage issue the console has

- Provide a decent online experience

I'm not saying MS is a saint, far from it, but if you believe Nintendo and Sony are any better as a company, you've just bought into the smiling faces of Reggie and whomever is head of sony these days. You do realise that Nintendo were bastards during the NES and SNES era due to their stranglehold on the market right? and that Sony were equally villainous when they introduce the playstation and stole ALL of Nintendo's 3rd party franchises right?

Also, I've noticed an increase of sony fans shouting the praises of the PSWii, is it because the Wii makes up for the deficiencies of the PS3 that you have to latch onto it like a leech in order to surpass the 360? (I know it's flamebait, but it had to be said, I've noticed an increase in it and I think it's absolutely disgusting that the PS3 fans aren't proud of the PS3's accomplishments, so they have to use the banner "PSWii" in order to make themselves look better as Nintendo looks so good right now).

You shouldn't be so blinded to Sony either.  Sony is attempting to take over your living room too.

Correct, BUT there is a really big difference how these two companies would use their monopoly situation.

History has shown us MS cannot ever be trusted. They just use their current monopoly positions to expand into other new areas and unfairly (with monolpoy money) crush competition there. So would prefer to take my chances with Sony. Any day.

Lost my faith in VGChartz. Too many stupid and ignorant Americans, even as moderators.

It's a shame, really. "The Boss" should do something radical about this Americanization, but it seems hardly feasible, so my days here are numbered.

Disolitude, Nintendo runs their business with common sense. The problem with how both Sony and MS conduct business is that is an all or nothing proposition. In order make money the Sony/MS business model requires complete domination of the market. Nintendo's model makes a profit whether they are first or last. Microsoft and Sony to a lesser extent can pull money from others lines of business to fund their gaming endeavors.

@ CAL4M1TY

Damn! You beat me to it! Seriously what a ridiculous statement that was.

I know they do...I was jsut saying, nintendo doesn't put customer first...business practise second. I believe they are putting the true gamer customer last actually...compared to the other 2 companies.

The new price cut can't raise sales over 170k permantly. I say this because aside from the hardware issues that are slowly but surley going, the 360 has a solid online and a good versatile games libary with a bit of everything and for $199 it is a steal.

If it cant, in my opinion that will be a double blow for MS and the 360 because

1) They can't expand their install base as much as they hoped.

2) They will suffer a significant loss in terms of $$$

So they will ultimatly fail in my opinion. Not to say it is a bad console, it is a good console, hell i thought bout getting one. But realisticly the PS3 is at $400 and it can sell in the 150-210k range easily and the Wii is at $250 and it can sell 270k + easily. So saying the 360 is at $199 and it can't sell 170k is an EPIC FAIL on MSOFT part.

If they can't, in my opinion they should give up on the whole Games Buisness because they are at $6 Billion loss and arn't making significant ground to warrent themselves a new console. I think they should stick to what they do best, software.

Ok let me identify some issues with your statements

1) I do agree they need to increase there install base

2) They are making money, even with the prcie cuts they are still making money on there consoles, plus they are arguably selling the most software and making money there.

There is no way I would even look at the 360 as a failure it was expected to be in third and may end up there but there is a big difference between PS2 - Xbox complete and utter trouncing and PS3 - 360.  360 even if it ends up in third will have made a great fanbase, sold well and made MS money.

Why would you EVER want MS to drop out?

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Actually they are making ground. But yes, I would prefer to see them quit.

I dont get why anyones who likes consoles SOny or Ninetendo would ever want MS to drop.  The reason HOme of coming from Sony is because of Live.  No Live and there would be no home.  The reason the PS3 is even at $400.00 is cause MS keeps dropping the price of the 360 putting pressure on Sony currenlty not WII though..

The reason Sony is giving so much support to 3rd party developers is because MS has been doing it so well.  So no matter what you should all want them in the race.  I dont ever want someone to get so complacent as sony did and come out with a $600.00 gaming console.  They did it cause they figured it would sell no matter what.

Some people value brand name more than the video games themselves I guess...

Do I need to repeat myself again?  I'm not defending Microsoft, but Sony isn't a saint of a company.  Whether you choose to believe me or not, Sony has attempted to make many attempts to monopolize the entertainment industry, the only difference with Microsoft is that Microsoft was succesful.
