Forums - Nintendo - 3 reasons for nintendo to be worried

Paul_Warren said:

#2 was a blessing for the Wii as during the past two Christmas seasons, Nintendo was able to generate a lot of hype for the system which led to the increased demand that it now enjoys such as past Christmas shortages cause increased demand  for in 2005 for the xbox 360 and has generally increased demand for toys like Cabbage Patch Dolls and Tickle Me Elmo.

However, correcting the problem is a curse for Nintendo because once the console is widely available in stores with the opportunity for people that really know nothing about games but had their want for the Wii increased by co-workers who were Nintendo fans and the scarcity of the console finally be able to see what the console is capable of graphic and technology wise compared to what the other systems can do, their demand for the system will fall off. When you put the PS3 with Heavy Rain, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, or Final Fantasy XIII while on the next shelf next is a cheaper than the Wii 360 running Gears of War 2, while all you have running on the Wii sitting next to them is Animal Crossing or Wii Music which by comparison will only look like about like SNES games, you will see fewer people buying the Wii.

Well, I guess that's why TV makers put the Wii on their big HDTV to advertise them! LOL!

I'm sure people wanting to play Wii Sports will change their mind when they see Gears of Wars 2 on XB360 next to it.

Or perhaps they will be repelled even more from buying a XB360 for their kids, and definitely go for the Wii, who knows?

I think he missed the part where Nintendo increased their fiscal year projection to $3 800 000 000. Nintendo made huge profits even before the Wii and DS, proving that they make tons of money even when they are selling worse than the competitors.

Oh. He also forgot about the DS.

This is invisible text!

I think sales wise you will see an increase of $199 360's where supply for Wii's are a concern.

...From what I've read of the Source's post retailers are gearing up for large sales of the Wii this holiday season. I personally just want the supply constraint to be gone so the gray market can stop raping the inpatient. =/

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

"2. Shortages of the Wii didn't help the competitors much in the past, so with the production of Wii now being up, it won't change anything at all now. Besides, this time around, I think Nintendo built a big stack of Wii for the holidays. Can they sell 3 millions Wii in a month? We'll see, but clearly, that's not sth that worries Nintendo."

The reason that the shortages didn't help Nintendo's competitors in the past was because the non gamers that were purchasing the Wii and made up the majority of people that bought games like Wii Fit and Wii Sports really didn't know what they were buying. At most they probably knew it was a new game console and not being people whom had spent much time really researching the market they didn't know or care about one console's capabilities from another. They probably assumed that all three systems had the same capabilities as they were all game machines to them. However as they become smarter about games and develop a more discerning palate for them or as more people finally have a chance to see the Wii's capabilities for themselves rather than just having their interest in the Wii stoked by word of mouth, fewer people will be willing to buy the Wii. As better games become available for the PS3, for example, you will see fewer people buying the Wii.

The Wii is certainly going to have a much more difficult time reaching 50 million consoles sold than it did reaching the 30 million consoles sold point. Of course another reason is that the Wii just doesn't have that strong of an upcoming game library.

Note: Wii sales like those for any other consoles will spike with price cuts of course, but it is not going to live up to the lofty expectations that the Nintendo faithful have for it.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

Worry is a big word, and while reason 1 is total nonsens, the other 2 reasons are genuine (if only small) problems for Nintendo in the long run.

Seriously, none of those are an issue. Nintendo only has one thing to worry about:

1) Nintendo.

why do people think that wii sales will slow down?

So some people are still in the denial phase of grief. Impressive!

No one points out the advantage Nintendo have in appealing to 'casuals' including kids. Kids games dont sell for shit on the other systems. Thats a problem

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

The 360 price drop is of no concern: the only model cheaper than the Wii is the gimped version that nobody, even among people who don't know anything about the 360, has been willing to touch with a 10-foot pole.

Those who call themselves "hardcore" have pretty much all gone to the 360 anyway, and no one is going to stop the rest from getting their puerile endocrine fix. Real gamers, including the core market, find much to appreciate on the Wii, and Nintendo doesn't need insecure adolescent males to win the market anyway.

How can you call the arcade version gimped its got twice the graphic power of the WII and has HD output, comes with Five arcade games?  Yes it dosent have a HD but neither does WII

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game
