This is how stealth trolling works ...

So people aren't allowed to not like games? Right.

False, just say honestly that you don't like the game, and don't cover it up with " I want to like ......"

Oh, so it's you know peoples opinions then? I really do mean I want to like this game, if I didn't I wouldn't say I'm going to complete the first disc. True, there are quite a few things that are bothering me about the game but since so many people think it's the bomb-diggity I'm willing to give it a go. I payed for it I might as well give it a good run. So yes, I want to like it.

The optional bosses aren't hard if you grind in the temple long enough..

I wouldn't call it grinding, I was just getting lost a lot...

No, but it is pretty obvious what yours is....

I've found the story to be interesting, but I'm deep into disc 2 and I'm look at the next 2 disc and wondering how much longer...lol. It's a LONG game, that's for sure, but I want to see what happens...

The problem with LO is that it is character driven rather than plot driven. It's a story all about the characters, which is most notably achieved through the Dreams. Plot driven stories are typically easier to consume, they require less thought or analysis and are in general more superifcial. LO has more character development than any RPG I can remember, with plenty of subtlty and nuance to its storytelling. As a result it's naturally not going to appeal to the average gamer, who typically has all the subtlty of a jackhammer.

As for the OP, I recall needing to use Jansen and Fire to win that early battle. It's a difficult battle to be sure, but easily winnable with a consistent strategy. Afterall, the game is designed so you never have to grind - it is designed primarily so that you will need to use a consistent strategy to win many of the battles.

Weren't various FF games character driven(FFVII, FFX)?

Dude, the bird-thing before magic staff is the first boss of the game. It might be a bit earlier to call things off, isn't it?

Anyways if the bird boss got to you, wait till you reach the boss at the feet of magic staff - now that's a real bugger. After those two fights the game becomes a bit easier while remaining challenging because it caps grinding (you can't mass-grind to steamroll bosses). Later on you won't want your immortals to die because of the wall mechanic - chars at the front soak up damage for chars at the back, if your front guys get knocked the vulnerable casters will get vaporized. Also self-rezz'd inmortals lose the buffs and these become very important mid-game.

Rings will become very relevant - they basically "color" attacks with elemental properties and are used to exploit elemental vulnerabilities (plus some other bonuses...). The story also improves soon enough. IMHO it holds up until the 4th disc when it morphs into standard FF-fare.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Honestly, I enjoyed this game quite a bit, although I reached the 4th disc about 5 months ago and have not touched it since. I was on my way to Nomura but the story was crawling at such a slow pace and it was hard to keep myself interested.

This thread makes me want to go back and play though because to be honest, it is probably the best oldschool turn-based RPG you will find right now.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Considering it comes from the creator of FF, that shouldn't be suprising
