Forums - Sales - 'Specs > Pricing' for HD console consumers?

The 80g PS3 is certainly a smash hit....we can see that from the list

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I don't think the issue is so much specs > pricing as the fact that Microsoft sells accessories for the 360 at outrageous prices so in the end buying the higher end models is a better deal if you feel you're going to have to upgrade HDD or get WiFi for example.........

Arcade is a good deal if you're never going to go online much or download anything. Otherwise it sadly is a rip off....

MikeB probably hits it in the head too with his post.
360 has had quality issues and most people probably believe they are less likely to suffer those if they buy a more expensive model.( wether that is true or not, I can't comment..)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I disagree. Console Freinds and community > Specs/Price.

When I was playing PS3 I found myself using the browser to check my xbox.com profile to see if any were on and playing games.

And if they were I'd run to the 360 to boot it up...so if someones freinds have a console, he is more likely to buy that console.

but between specs and price, it really depends what kind of a person you are. If having a T3 line gives one a hard on...then i presume specs would be what you'd like more reguardles sof the price.

If representative this seems to suggest that going below the 200 dollar barrier isn't as important as anticipated by many. If so, it looks like it would have been better for Microsoft to simply scrap the arcade/core models. This to benefit the premium and elite models, enabling developers to rely on harddrive caching for designing their games.

I think one factor why the Elite seems to be doing relatively well may be due to previous 360 hardware issues. For example a friend upgraded to an Elite due to hardware issues with his premium, hoping this model is better designed.

I think thats close enough DMeisterJ don't you?

Close enough, but he uses "If" representative...

If he said "it's" representative it'd be a different story.

Interesting points Ail and disolitude,

I also think people may be looking more at the long run, yes expensive upgrades is probably a factor, the community features you plan to use as well and also non-budget games are expensive. What I mean by this, the more 360 games you buy the less of a factor the entry pricing becomes when looking at the total costs. One new 60 dollar game with a $199 console is only $260, nearly twice as cheap (vs $460) as an Elite together with this game. But if you anticipate to buy 10 new 360 games it's $800 vs $1000 and so forth.

I find it offensive that you wrote starcrafts name with a "S"

@ MikeB: I think the issue with Amazon is that a different market tends to use that store, people who buy things online would tend to be more in the early adopter group for technologies such as Blu Ray etc.

Tease.

May have something to do with my assumption that the people more likely to go to an online store to purchase a video game system may be more likely to gravitate towards one that mimics a computer.

Updated (latest bestseller rankings):

6. Playstation 3
28. XBox 360 Elite
51. XBox 360 Premium (60 GB)
54. XBox 360 Arcade

Pretty steady (all in stock and all dropped a little), IMO it does not look like that the price cut had a major impact so far. Just like was the case for Europe a while ago.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself here. Besides how many times has it been said on this site that Amazon is not a good way to judge a trend. The other day I went to Bestbuy and then Target (needed dinner) and both places were sold out of the Arcade and Premium models since the price drop. I did however see 4-6 PS3s there. For me to make a thread about what I saw would be met with the same comment about how the "evidence" doesnt mean that there is a trend.

IDC what console sells more so the whole thing is pointless to me but to take a piece of "evidence" and make a grossly overestimated prediction like that is pretty lame. Btw, in terms of the fanboy hardware sales that you like to see, the price drop in Europe didnt satisfy the 360 fans. It did however boost sales in its own right and its selling a lot better than it would had there been no price drop. Look at the hardware graphs, they've been posted a lot over the last view days regarding this topic.

Consoles Owned: Sega Genesis, NES, PS2 (RIP) N64, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii

I woudn't use amazon to determine which console sells the most.
It's just interesting to see that the more expensive 360 SKUs sell more than the less expensive ones..
