How much of a dent is Sony looking to make against the DS? It's so far behind them in total sales in all areas, all they can do is add some features that make it more appealing, while Nintendo is just adding a new color! The ironic thing is that the PSP is actually selling FAR better than I thought it would have, I mean come on, it's total sales are higher than Wiis, and should remain that way until next spring when I predict the Wii will surpass it in lifetime sales. The PSP is probably going to end up over 70 million, which is what Nintendo did with the original Game Boy, remember? That's VERY respectable! If it wasn't for the DS just running away with it, people would say that Sony took market share away from Nintendo, which actually they did, because Game Boy had over 90% while the DS is trying to get to 70%. I'm not sure what Sony will do to finish this first generation PSP, but you know the PSP2 will have a touch screen!

sony is releasing way to many psp versions, i mean psp 200 isnt even that old!

there may be an iphone like touchscreen but i doubt it will be as implemented as the ds's if it has one

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Consoles owned: Game Cube, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3.

My prediction: NATAL WILL NOT help 360 sales. Maybe a 50-100k boost week 1, then a 30-70 k boost week 2, and back to the norm again after 3-5 weeks.

the psp can be seen as a success but it obviously failed somewhere, because it's getting thrashed by the competition. it's pretty obvious that sony wanted to beat the ds, because i see no point in releasing it if you didn't want to become the first choice over your competition, so they failed in my opinion. very respectable sales though.

70 million is a bit high. It's not selling that fast. 50-55 million is more likely, and that's still a damn good amount, as few systems have sold that many.

got to keep in mind this is sony's first attempt at a portable game system. with that said 70 million first try...that is pretty awesome.

you can also say that this is a test phase for sony...they can improve on all the things right or change all the things wrong. sony can only grow stronger in this area of gaming, infact i bet the psp2 and ds2 will be a very close race.

They arent trying to compete with the DS in sales, because that way lies madness. Sony are just trying to carve out their own corner of the market, which they have done so far. The PSP 3000 will boost sales for a whule, but nothing approaching the DS level of sales, at least not for a long period

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

The handheld will probably hit 43-45  million this year an you bealive that LT it will be able to do only 10 million more?!?!?!? If Sony lets it to stay on the market and gives it the long-awaited 150 or 140$ pricecut then I see no reason why the PSP couldent reach 60-70 million units ;)

"Probably" isn't certain. I have a thread cheering the system to reach 50 million, but it's still taking a while.
