Firstly, credit to Nintendo for actually trying to do something different, and for creating a new IP instead of taking the easy path.
However, the question needs to be asked - What the hell were they thinking?
Who was producing this game? Did it never get to the point where they actually stopped to think who was going to be interested in playing or buying it?
Now, it has had some advertising. At the very least I have seen ads for it in a couple of Famitsu issues, but at the same time it is clear that Nintendo aren't exactly going to town on this game either. Which begs the question - if Nintendo themselves aren't 100% behind this game, why on earth was it not canned during production? It's almost like they completely forgot about this game as they were busy with other things, then before they knew it, it was completed, so Nintendo figured they had no choice but to release it anyway, fully knowing it has virtually no audience.
The only explanation I can think of is that the release schedule for first party games in Japan is bone dry at the moment, so if nothing else this would pad out the calendar a bit.
I salute this game for being a bizarre mystery. Possibly the most interesting first party game they have released so far this year. Neither core, nor casual. Perhaps Nintendo need to invent a third category..
