Forums - Nintendo - Captain Rainbow - Squeezed out the back door like an untimely fart

Firstly, credit to Nintendo for actually trying to do something different, and for creating a new IP instead of taking the easy path.

However, the question needs to be asked - What the hell were they thinking?

Who was producing this game?  Did it never get to the point where they actually stopped to think who was going to be interested in playing or buying it?

Now, it has had some advertising.  At the very least I have seen ads for it in a couple of Famitsu issues, but at the same time it is clear that Nintendo aren't exactly going to town on this game either.  Which begs the question - if Nintendo themselves aren't 100% behind this game, why on earth was it not canned during production?  It's almost like they completely forgot about this game as they were busy with other things, then before they knew it, it was completed, so Nintendo figured they had no choice but to release it anyway, fully knowing it has virtually no audience.

The only explanation I can think of is that the release schedule for first party games in Japan is bone dry at the moment, so if nothing else this would pad out the calendar a bit.

I salute this game for being a bizarre mystery.  Possibly the most interesting first party game they have released so far this year.  Neither core, nor casual.  Perhaps Nintendo need to invent a third category..

The game went from announcement to release in about a month.

okay?

Which OBVIOUSLY means that Nintendo could have NOT been working on it the months prior.

You know, it was probably one of their many ''already developed games that have been in their warehouse for 2 years now that they've got to release or else they're going to lose the hardcores gamers if they don't'' or something.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

The game looks whack but intresting none the less. He appears to look alot like another Japanese super hero so I'm guessing their is satire us in the west are missing. The game obviously targets a Japanese audiance specifically. I'm not sure if it is coming to the west can't remember. But if it does I'm sure Nintendo's team at TreeHouse will have a very hard time giving it the same sense of appeal it will have in Japan.

Your viewing this too narrowly keep in mind our cultures are different and a game that may look like someone OD'ing on crack here in North America might be a major hit in asia. While something like Halo might be awsome over hear but Japanese gamers might think what the heck is this hunk of junk.

We all have different tastes just because you don't think the game will be good doesn't mean everyone else around the globe shares that opinion. Besides look at the marketing potential behind Nintendo creating a Super Hero the comics , movies , anime that could be really profitable for Nintendo!

So you played it? If not why are you critsising?

Who's it for?

It's simple.

Nintendo fans who have been playing since the Famicom.

It's for the hardest of the hardcore Nintendo fan.

Not that "Hardcore" gamer... but the guy who had the Famicom system (not NES) and grew up on those weird but awesome games.

You can tell because nearly all the characters are from little known Nintendo games... a lot of which never left japan.

It was basically a big gesture (all beit low budget) to give thanks to the Japanese fans who have stuck with Nintendo all aong, or at least are coming back to the Wii since the NES days.

It's about as close to a game made simply for the fans as you'll get.

Well outside of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
