Forums - Website Topics - We should add a way to give VG$ to other people.

I thought about that possibility for a while, and the money would simply be laundered. People would make new accounts, transfer their money to their main account, and do pointless actions on their main account such as submitting release dates and posting on the forums to make it look like they didn't get their money through a method that's against the rules. Or even if they knew they couldn't get away with it, they'd do it just to annoy us. This would really only work if money transactions were surveyed by the moderators, but we're busy enough already.

And? Really what would be the bad side of that? I can't think of a single benefit to having a ton of VG$ so I can't think of a reason to care if someone created 10,000 accounts to boost their amount.

Because it wastes site resources? Maybe you don't care, but the administrators do.

Ok granted creating a thousand different profiles would cause some problems, but I don't think the issue will be wide spread at all. I doubt even more than a couple people would create more than 3-4 fake accounts. Going for more than that could be detected by a simple tracing of the IP used to create accounts. That would require Talonman to waste his time creating a way to detect that of course but so would giving people the ability to transfer VG$ so I just assume we are dealing with a fantasy world where the people coding the site have infinite time to waste on useless features.

You could always put a cap on it, like pershaps limiting the amount based on the number of posts that person had.It would work something like this:

0-50 posts $0 a day

51-100 posts $10 a day

101-200 posts $20 a day

202-300 $40 a day

301-400 $80 a day

Or some other point value that scales with post count making sure that at least the first few posts had a $0 VG$ exchange value per day. This would make it a waste of time to open a new account post 50 some od times and then net $10 dollars for your efforts.

Yes, but people already give their profiles fake hits by refreshing the page (like http://vgchartz.com/profiles/profile.php?id=15011), imagine what they would do with VG$ just to figure in the rankings.

If I wasn't about to start reading the Illiad I might have time to begin the lengthy list of reasons wii4ever is nothing close to a typical user and the type of person that should never have internet access. I think the entire idea of VG$ is bad to begin with because of the e-peen contests it could start, but it doesn't seem to have had any real effect so who cares. Besides, creating an account and transfering the funds would take a lot more effort than hitting F5.

I'd like to give some VG$ away to charity.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit
11/03/09 Desposit: Mod Bribery (RolStoppable)  vg$ 500.00
06/03/09 Purchase: Moderator Privilege  vg$ -50,000.00

An easy way to solve that would be to axe the signup bonus altogether. Every dollar would have to be earned, thus multiple accounts wouldnt matter in that sense. It's still against forum rules though!
