More compulsions from OCDtewi.

All of my original compulsions still remain.

Some more have been added.

1. I always have to wipe the sweat from my face. Even when there is a miniscule amount, I have to wipe it away. It can get annoying.

2. Whenever I exit of something on my TV (Guide, Info, Menu etc.), I have to press the exit button at least 8 times.

3. Another TV related compulsion. Whenever I do the volume on my TV (I have bars that represent volume on my TV), the volume ALWAYS has to be one away from moving to another bar. Also, I have to cycle between two bars for two or three seconds.

4. I usually worry about a lot of things.

dtewi, got a quick question, what if the cabinet has one of those lips on the left door that keeps it from being opened until after the right hand door has been opened first?

I don't consider anything a compulsion unless you are unable to change your methodology when confronted with an obstacle.

In this respect, I pretty much have no compulsions that i can identify. Heck, I've even gone through and occasionally put my shoes on in a different order than normal, or other similar things just to shake any routines I have up a bit.
I'll usually revert back to the routine if it's unimportant, but I don't consider that to be a compulsion, since my only reason for doing it is out of the convenience of not having to concentrate on what I'm doing, thus allowing me to think about other things.

I have to cycle my pointer through the four corners of my screen until I feel that I have done it enough.

If one of my nipples are pinched *purple nurple* I HAVE to pinch the other one.

If I am not sitting with my back to a wall and nobody behind me I will not be able to concentrate.

Those are just the two that come to mind first.

Here's another that popped up in the last few days.

I have four pillows. Two are white, one is gray and white, and the other is white with small black dots. The two white pillows and gray pillow always have to be by my head and the white with black dots by my feet.

Most of you don't have OCD. Really you don't.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/980401ap/eddy.html

Most of you seem to fail at least on criteria C.

Edit: Also as my grandmother worked as a councillor for the Sallies for many years she met a lot of people with actual OCD and let me tell you it can be absolutley life-destroying. There are people who scrub themselves until they bleed because they are so obsessed with being clean, even though they know that it isn't making them cleaner they can't stop it.

There are many different types of levels of OCD Rath.

Mine happens to be mild to moderate.

Those people you talk about have severe OCD. It's not "actual" OCD as you call it, it's just OCD in its worst form.

Also, some of my compulsions are because of ritual, but some are brought on by obsessions, like washing my hands in a certain order because that's the only way they feel clean.

Don't say that I don't have it, because I do. Just in a milder form.

Actually, Rath is correct, nobody in here actually has OCD.

Strange habits are not OCD. They're just strange habits.

Like me, if I touch something with one hand, I often feel the need to touch it with the other, for an equal amount of time (usually if it's an object I don't use regularly). I don't know why, but it's not OCD, it's just a strange habit.

OCD is caused by disturbing or bothersome thoughts that can't be suppressed or pushed aside except by focusing on a task. It's COMPLETELY different than random compulsions that we all (or most of us) have. That's just part of being human, really. We all have our quirks, but it's certainly not OCD in any form.

Here's what I just sporked from Wikipedia.

Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.

Maybe that means rituals. Maybe I just misinterperted it.

But I think I do have OCD though.

8 Months Ago I would wash my hands over 50 times a day. If I touched any part of my body that was open skin and not my hands (like my legs or upper arms or face) I had to wash my hands because I thought they were contaminated. Then I got dermatitis which is raw, red hands. I had to get a cream for them. It took a couple of weeks to get better.

Today I don't have that problem anymore. I had to train myself that it was fine to touch open skin. It took a couple months but now I don't have that anymore. But now when I do wash my hands (After going to the bathroom. That's it really.), I have to wash in a certain order and for a certain amount of time or they don't feel clean. I won't like touch anything at all until they feel clean.

Is that OCD? Because I'm almost sure it is. I have just learned to control it so now I don't have severe or extreme OCD. But I still think those compulsions I have listed are related to my OCD.
