my first encounter with lol must have happened in 2001.  This is when i first became connected to the internets.

I really didn't understand what msn was, but when i was talking to my uncle, he used 'lol' more than i would have liked. i didn't know what it meant. and i was too embarrassed to ask.  it got really annoying when he used that exprssion in like every other mesge.

this went on for a while. -_-

i don't know how ended up telling me, but i'll never forget how i felt when everyone was using it.

That it was a stupid abbreviation. And I still think the same. I'll never, ever, use it.

I heard it about 30 times & pretended to know what it ment, then I decided to ask, and they told me "laugh out loud," and I was like, "oooooooohhhhhhh!"

I've always wondered how "lol" originated. I mean, most acronyms are shorthand for a common saying, like "what the fuck" or "by the way", but who honestly used to say "laugh(ing) out loud" before it got shortened to "lol"?
